here at the port of houston, we are very bio diverse

At this point no matter what the storm does I have to make it happen. Sunday I'm driving to Utah to run westwater canyon. I had only been looking at the forecast for that and missed paying attention to home. Supposed to be mid 70's out there sun-wed when we'll be on the river.

To make matters more complicated I waited to repack my trailer wheel bearings until the last minute as well. I'm about to walk outside and perform that RN before I head off to work for the day.

Oh, for sure it sucks that it's not performing, I just didn't think 40° sounded to warm for a drink. Then again, I don't live in Satan's Butthole, AZ so I don't need ice cold liquids to keep me from spontaneously combusting.

I lived in Gilbert, AZ for about 6 months. God was saying "Don't live here" when he made it that effing hot.

 

Just finished repacking bearings. Way easier than I made it out to be in my mind. Got all new bearings, dust caps, and seals from a trailer store when I was in Denver. Thanks to everyone who offered advice on the process last week.

 

I've only been to AZ once. It was enough to tell me I don't want to retire there. Strictly the heat issue, nothing else.
I'm starting to convince myself I probably can't handle TX heat long term either.

 

If you want to live in AZ, look at areas around Flagstaff. They have enough elevation to combat some of the heat. They even get snow.

 

East Valley where Gilbert is, gets more monsoon rain in the summer so it is actually cooler than the West Valley. I lived in Surprise, which was West Valley and we didn't even get the frequency of monsoon storms compared to Gilbert. Storms would roll through starting in the East Valley and literally evaporate by the time they hit Peoria, which is the city just east of Surprise with nothing in Surprise.

Tucson, where @Azblue lives gets a good amount of monsoon rain compared to the Phoenix metro area.

I think the happy medium of places to live out there, would be Prescott, Payson, Show Low. Doesn't get the intense heat of Phoenix metro but also doesn't get the heavy snows of Flagstaff. Flagstaff will get feet of snow compared to inches in Prescott.

 

I was there from August through January or February. We didn't have rain for squat. It was a hellish dustbowl the entire time. I think I saw rain twice during the day.

 

I'm surprised that January and February felt like a hellish dustbowl. Those are prime months to be out and about enjoying nature. I guess it's all a matter of perspective and what your point of reference is. It could have also just been a dry year for storms in general.

 

Anything over 72° to 74° is hot to me. My preferred range of temps is 64° to 72°. The only place I want 80° is at the lake so it's warm enough to go swimming.

 

I love every temperature up to about 102. After 102 I have a hard time doing things outside all day. Unless it involves water.

 

For me it’s about the sun vs. shade. I can handle temps in the 90’s as long as I have shade. If I have to be out in the direct sun then I fall part around 80.

And don’t even get me started about humidity over 40%.

 

I've got one of these if anyone wants it.

We regularly see over 105 in the summer. Also, typically at least a ten day stretch where it is 110-115. But never any real humidity. So it's just a dry heat.

I'd take 50° with the sun out and no wind before a "dry heat" in excess of 78°.
