Some of the chassis components have been rattle-canned with satin black paint. But they did a great job of masking the work.

I'd be skeptical of the low miles after dealing with what I dealt with on my low-mile 1st gen. And it's kinda weird it's had 3 owners too. a 4-owner 35k mile truck? Sounds kinda weird, no?

    guys
    i got REAL bad news
    SCAM

Add that truck vin to your toyota dashboard and view the service history (and mileage)
Someone has cleaned that truck up and rolled the miles back. They failed to scan the vin and look at the mileage......... Last scan was in 2012 with 66,000 miles.... The previous scans appear solid.
Pretty sure this is a doctored up, dry ice blasted frame, with touch-ups all over and an AWESOME detail. I suspect this truck has 150,000+ miles

Last time it was at a Toyota dealer and got logged with the VIN below in PDF

Thanks for the warning! Was seriously considering a bid.

How does "Bring a Trailer" work anyhow? You have to bring a trailer and tow it or can you drive it home?

Always be cautious of low mileage vehicles. Just like the human body needs its exercise & to move around, so does an engine. A car sitting in a garage for most its life does more harm than good.

It’s essentially a “soft” contract between you and the seller, so anything can happen (you ask to ship it, go get it, etc.). No guarantee the seller follows through either.

Biggest problem is it’s 2 wheel drive.
So do people like it more if it’s got more miles on it?

I'm much more into Bring a Trailer being an advertising site only. I much prefer to work out a deal with the seller directly.

I prefer Craigslist to Farcebook Marketplace but nobody uses Craigslist anymore. :(

2WD? EEEK! Wouldn't have worked for us. We don't use it often but when we need it, we need it right then!

    Yeah. I'm not a buyer. I've got it's 4x4 brother.
There is another thread with an '05 with 190k on it, and everybody is telling him that it's worth at least 10k and probably north of 12K. Whether this truck has 30k miles or 70k miles, it's clean. I doubt it's got 150k. I know my driver's seat doesn't look that good with 135k on it. Sooooo, biggest problem is it's two-wheel drive.

I think the whole thing started with "bring a trailer" by people auctioning off super rare, low mileage gems that you didnt want to drive, or stuff that was broken down and just wanted it out of their yard. I think its slowly migrated towards the higher end, super rare, low mileage gems. In this case you would have it shipped via broker / hot shot or you can trailer it, or if you wanna drive it sure you can fly in or drive in and pick it up and leave.
There is someone who lists vehicles on Craigslist like that, i think they are in Seattle. EVERYTHING they list is SUPER clean and SUPER low mileage like unheard of mileage. I cant figure it out except for them buying lower mileage trucks at higher prices to get them, and then taking them in and doing a super detail, rolling the mileage back, and listing it as a crazy low mileage vehicle. Everything from diesel pickups, to Toyotas with unbelievably low mileage. Sure they all look good but this place fixes them up, puts mild lifts and new tires and wheels, and has a crazy good detail i suspect with the dry ice blasting under the frames to make them look close to new again. Every vehicle they list has such low, unheard of mileage.

Yeah the bid you place is a "contract" that you agree to pay $xxxx for the vehicle but if you get there to pick it up and find something wrong you can opt out. I have seen plenty of vehicles relisted and in the comment section it usually comes out that the buyer was a deadbeat and didnt show or backed out.

I am certain that if you look at the carfax it is going to show you conflicting numbers. Any time your vehicle is taken to a dealer and a reporting shop like body shop and high end shops, EVERY time your vehicle is put into a "system" where they enter your vin to track warranty work and repairs, this gets put on your vehicle report. CarFax should be able to see every one of these "pings" and the mileage it was recorded at. This is the same type of info that the Toyota dashboard service history does and all of the Toyota service history you can see should also be on the carfax. This truck above had scans showing LOF (lube oil filter) and tire rotations and changes, battery replacement, ect. The mileage is logged and the last log was in 2012 at 66,xxx miles. This should be on the carfax as well. Someone would have had to roll back the miles and then take the vehicle to somewhere and got some service work done for the carfax to now be reporting the 35,000 miles. This should however throw up a red flag on carfax computer systems indicating that the mileage has reduced from a previous scan. Definitely not kosher.

Pretty sure the vast majority of the numbers are lower like $8,500-$10,000 with the one or two people saying IF it had leather or was 4wd it could / would be worth $12,000

There are people who take care of seats. My last tacoma i had, i ordered new and took it the day it rolled off the truck to an upholstery shop and had them put in a RoadWire leather kit in it. I cleaned the seats and lubed them up a few times a year but most importantly i NEVER slid out of the seats. I stepped in with the running boards and stepped up and out on the running board. Sliding out is what kills the side bolster. My truck when i sold it had 275,000 miles and this below is what the seat looked like in the for sale pictures. I worked this truck, pulled a trailer about 60% of its life, got in the seat sweaty and nasty. In the summer i hung a thick towel over the seat to soak up my sweat to keep the leather from drying out from the salt in my sweat. ALWAYS step in and step out on the running boards, DONT slide out and your seats will look like this at 250,000+ miles.
Matter of fact, my 4R was the same way, i got leather in it right after i got it, shes got about 252,000 miles on it. The last picture will be my 4R today which also has a RoadWire leather kit. As long as you dont slide out, you can make high mileage seats still look good. As i was browsing last night i saw this truck and was thinking about it. This is listed as 312,000 mile Tundra. Check the seats out. Notice it DOES have running boards. I would suspect this person too paid attention and didnt slide out of the seats. Its imperative in order to save the seats that you dont slide out of them. My dads 2020 Tacoma has about 60,000 miles and the seat bolster is flat and the fabric is torn. He has running boards but wont use them and tries to step over them. This causes him to slide in and out of the seat and his seat is trashed. Below are my tacoma at 275,000 with the same leather seat covers i put on them on day 1 and my current daily 4R with 252,000 miles on it. Sliding out of seats kills them, i gotta friend with 550,000+ on a 1gt and his cloth seats still look good.

Well this one does have running boards. Maybe it's got 350k on it.

Will make an effort not to "slide out of" my Tundra's seat tomorrow. Not that the previous 6 owners can be convinced to follow suit.

We may get the driver's seat reupholstered or find a better seat at some point. I do plan to put on some seat covers as the leather is just too slippery.

Closed at $24K. Makes all our talk about $8,500 or $12,000 pretty moot. Silly.

I mean, if someone wants to buy my low-mile 1GT with minimal mods and no real cutting/drilling done to it ... I'd probably sell it for $25k.

Meanwhile - and yes, I realize it's the less-desirable stepside version - but still, this less-than-80k-mile AC southern truck with no obvious signs of frame rust listed for $16k has been sitting, languishing for $15.9k almost for nearly a month now. Kinda suggests to me that BaT also attracts a crowd with more money than sense. Maybe 1 in 100 cars I see sell on BaT are actually a "deal". I've been watching LS430s on there for about 6 months now, on and off, and have encountered ZERO I'd want to buy at the price they sold.
