Glad I’m not the only one using my gears as a weight for the floor

Laziness meter is dipping real low on this one. The idea of taking a few days off this summer and dropping the truck off at Sibi is becoming more of a reality. Sibi’s like a mile up the road from Angel stadium and 2 miles away from Disney. Kids aren’t in school and get baseball/Disney time, wife gets a break, and I get a re-geared truck.

    Win-win-win

Need to call them to see if they’ll take these gears or not.

for the price you all paid, i don't think anyone should feel badly about just having them there waiting. Y'all scored a great deal on them, even after the small incremental price increases.

The gears are great. Everything stated as a pro is true not any cons for me.
Speedmaster LSD is awesome. 10x's better than the auburn. Ran it with Lucas 85-140 and 80-90 with pretty much same results. The 85-140 seemed to engage a lot faster but I really can't tell that much when the power is on.

I like the engagement using 85w-140. That’s probably what will stay forever.

Tough decision between the speedmaster and grip pro…. $70 dollar difference. Which one?!

Speedmaster. I’ve run both. The grip pro is a great unit, but requires extra maintenance and the perfect blend of friction modifier or it clangs and bangs and groans and moans and clunks. It also doesn’t put up with heavy throttle and wheel slip very well. It is, however, very well built. Mine put up with 140k miles of towing, hauling, and seasonal snow and ice.

The Speedmaster is smoother and less obtrusive, but provides plenty of traction. It is actually more aggressive on mid to heavy throttle where both wheels have decent traction like turning on to a heavily trafficked road from a stop; the auburn was more prone to slipping one tire in the turn, then spinning that one to infinity.

The grip pro is the powertrax unit not the auburn, both the powertrax and speedpro units have gears, no clutch packs so the grip pro doesn’t need special oil.

Doh. Haven’t woken up yet I guess. Doesn’t help that the auburn is called the Pro Series.

I have handled a grip pro and the Speedmaster side by side; the Speedmaster appears to be better machined, but that’s just an opinion based on observation. It also is supposed to have more preload than the grip pro.

What are you seeing for pricing on the two units? The was a significant price difference when I bought them - several hundred dollars. The Speedmaster was just over $1k while the Powertrax could be had for $650-800.

I still love my Grip Pro. I don't think you can go wrong with either one, so shop for the better deal.

I have the powertrax, installed it myself and I cannot even remember what diff oil i put in there. It is quiet and locks up quickly/quietly and makes my SC'd truck a hoot to drive sideways.

I went with the speedmaster lsd as it looked to be pretty well built and the offer a Veterans discount.
I asked the saleswoman if there would be a black Friday sale . She stated if I could wait it would be a significant discount. A few of us jumped on it but there was a dissenter who put off several people...I really enjoy it and do not regret getting it.

Grip pro was a few hundred cheaper when I purchased mine. I love it. Give it enough throttle to spin a tire, and it will be enough input to lock both sides and spin both. Turning corners or no load, drives like stock. Only issue I had was one axle was a massive pain in the ass to get back in. Many have reported this issue as well. Make sure you test fit both axles before install so you can decide what you want to do. I had to grind down the splines very lightly and file in between the splines to get mine in.

Both seem to do the job pretty well. I’ve had 2 powertrax products, the current Grip Pro and their No-Slip lunchbox locker in my first gen. I was/am pleased with both. If they made the No-slip for the Toyota 10.5 I actually would have gone with that. It had great road manners and locked up awesome, 100% under throttle.

Well gears go in next week! I ended up going with REM polished revolution gears. I called several well known gear installers, when asked about Motive gears, they were a crap shoot on how noisy they were, along with mixed failure rates, they all said they have never had an issue with revolution gears so I went with them. I also ended up with the powertrax, the speedmaster just doesn’t have the length of time used as the grip pro.

This is the discount gears of unknown origin and quality thread. The boujee gears thread is around the corner.
All kidding aside, that should be a nice combo and I’m sure you will be pleased. Still awaiting my discount gears install myself.

That's what Zuk was saying and recommended Revolution gears with REM.

I’m sure the motive gears would have been fine, but I just wanted the piece of mind, especially when Zuk recommends something.

I say this all the time, but Zuk is possibly greatest person I've ever met in the car world, specially comes to modifying.

This man was a saint when I was regearing my truck.
