The only thing I've seen pointed to for fibers nutritional value is eating fiber before a fatty meal can reduce the fat absorption in the gut. Well, if I'm eating no carbs and using fat for fuel, I may not want to block it. I won't say one way is right and another is wrong, necessarily, but that is because I think health is not a one size fits all proposition. There are so many nuances and differences to people and their individual health, that it's impossible to have a universal best diet.

Of course people will react differently to different things. I LOVE sweet potato, but my skin does not so i do not eat them.

i think fiber is completely unnecessary for any health benefit , however people can definitely tolerate various amounts of it just fine if they wish to consume those foods.

Extra fiber might be drano for your colon, well dont clog the drain with processed grains and you wont need drano :p

have not tried it tho but I saw a lot of people into it. Like to eat meat everyday with a butter and idk kinda yikes . I am okay with doing my ordinary diet and taking supplements from my Pharmacy B2B Partner to maintain my body in a good mood and shape

It works for me. I learned by the process of elimination that my body does not do well with starchy carbs. Corn is particularly bad for me as it's inflammatory properties really flared up my joint pains in addition to making me fatter. When I removed starchy carbs like grains and tubers (wheat, rice, corn, potatoes, carrots, etc) and increased my proteins, I started shedding fat. Went from 325 to 210 in 4 years. But when I tried to reintroduce starchy carbs back into my diet, I regained weight. I'll be sticking with meats and non-starchy veggies.

I see that you're from Idaho though, isn't it the state law that you're required to eat your own body weight in potatoes daily?;)

That only applies to native born Idahoans. I'm a refugee from CA. Thought I could resettle in NV but the Treasure Valley area reminded me of my childhood neighborhoods from so long ago. But no joke, it's really hard to not eat potatoes here. Tater Tots covered with chili and cheese, baked Russet with everything, potatoes au gratin... it's all so good here.

However my family originated from Japan so my Dad did say something similar.

"What? No rice at all?!?!? That's crazy! We're Japanese! We have to eat rice!" :eek2:

Mom was disappointed too but she like me better when I'm thinner. She was afraid that I would die before them.

Pic of me taken by my wife 8 years ago...

    IMG_5246.jpg

I had been eating only "keto-diet" foods....and cut out beer but would still knock down a pile of liquor drinks with sugar free mixers.

48-49 years old and in decent shape....probably the best since college days except for both knees and right shoulder needing replacement.

Soon after that pic, however, things came off the rails. Cancer showed up and she fought it like a warrior princess. I was doing everything I could to stay in the fight with her.
She passed 4 years ago this month.

I have finally.....finally....started to engage in what she demanded I do....to live.
In her last months, she'd forced me to sit and listen to her wishes after she passed. I couldn't speak...couldn't acknowledge then that the cancer would be terminal...even though I knew that was the medical prognosis.

So....I did a couple things earlier this month....
    1) fired the yard maintenance crew that had been tending the yard over the past several years.
I went and grabbed some gear and am making it my ongoing project. Yardfit, lol. It is a start.

Last chore of my 2017 Tacoma.....

First chore of my new 2025 Tundra...

    2) quit living off fast food and garbage eats. Done. Almost everything in the fridge, freezer and pantry went to my son or into the garbage. Done. Resumed keto. Not as a diet, but simply as the way foward.

    3) decided to, at least for now, remain alcohol free. I'd quit all drinking 6 years ago when it was clear that I must remain clearheaded 24/7 and be in the moment to support her in every way humanly possible.

    4) for the first time in six years I have listened to music..any music.
I'd had to quit because of the powerful feeling of loss that would hit home when certain songs would play and trigger the feels.
The feeling of loss gets triggered, but it is also accompanied with respect, love and gratitude for our marriage....all aspects of it.

She wanted me to live....and digging out of the hole I was in is where I'm at now.

Keto has been immediate and easy. The results this month alone, have been astonishing. 57th birthday is coming up in a few months. I'll have someone take a similar pic....hopefully from the same position with me wearing similar clothing...maybe I still have those pants & t-shirt. The beard will have more gray but the pics gonna otherwise be same-same.

Cutting out sugar and starches is tremendously beneficial. Not having to offset a night of drinking with hardcore gym work the next morning is easy now that I'm not not drinking.

Last nights filet mignon, portabellas and edamame. This was all what was leftover and saved for another meal today.
    IMG_5235.jpg

I've reached the part with keto that has me no longer wanting big meals....my body is consuming the on board fat.

Keto, "yardfit" and some good music......for now, it is enough for my days off work.
Who knows what will be next.

I am sure of one thing....the day I retire I will be adding a German Shepherd puppy and enrolling in 1:1 training with him. We will take it as far as we can en route to Service Dog. A year or so into it I will add a female puppy and do similar training.

Maybe I will have new knees and shoulder by then and be ready for active dogs.
