Is there any issues going with #5 ?? 1 fall into the red X section so I am allowed but will that cause issues or concerns? I would like maximum lift. Thanks in advance

2.5” is the upper limit for these IFS systems. You’ll have CV angle issues. The boots will sling grease and wear out faster. You may have alignment issues, most will run aftermarket UCAs with caster adjustment. The ride will suffer, be more jarring and limit your available down travel.

Wouldn’t apply to a 4x2 obviously, the rest will. Just common lift problems on Toyota IFS setups.

Tell that to this guy, whose truck has seen more offroad time than 99.9% of (at least) the 1st gen members on this forum.

4WD isn't a prereq for lifting a truck, nor is it mandatory to really huck it out in the wild. It's arguably a security blanket, "nice to have". You know, for people who, like, need a security blanket and stuff.

Don't get me wrong, it's also good for pulling stumps out of the ground.

Most lifted trucks never even use their 4wd or venture off pavement. It’s just for the look a majority of the time.

The ride is going to be super harsh.

Why not go with a lifted spring? What are you trying to achieve/accomplish with your truck? Mallcrawling/brodozer, actual offroading, show queen?

There's a lot of other stuff you need to look to upgrade if you plan to go 2.5"+ lift. You're aware of that, right?

    :eek:I resemble that remark.
I'll have you know my truck is FULLY mall and supermarket-rated and 4WD is used multiple times in the winter. (On pavement.)

If max lift is harsh ride quality, which circlip setting is the best ride quality on 5100s? Stock or close to stock ride height?

Bottom circlip (no lift) is the optimal setting for ride quality.

When paired with a lifted spring, you're advised to only use the lowest setting. So that's what a lot of people do, either get 4600 or 5100 and run Old Man Emu (O.M.E.) or Dobinson springs. Tons of info on this setup choice in the megathread's suspension section. Also info on other things you need to think about with suspension. Have you read that thread yet?

You don't NEED to buy the 5100 to lift your truck, you can lift with the 4600. But the basic options you have with 5100 are:
    • Bottom circlip + OEM spring = no lift, near-OEM ride
    • Jump up in circlip + OEM spring, # of levels you can go up are dependent on drivetrain/cab type, and the higher you go, the worse the ride gets
    • Bottom circlip + lifted spring = height varies based on which spring you choose (see megathread for spring options) and near-OEM ride
It's up to you what you choose. But just know, once you start jumping above 2" of lift, you're going to need to update a couple of adjacent components and you will start wearing out adjacent components faster, need to make sure your LBJ are OEM and fresh and up to the task, and as you get above the 2.5" lift mark, there are additional things to start thinking about (aftermarket UCA etc.)

Oh, and whatever you do, DO NOT mix strut spacers with lifted struts or coilovers. And if you can avoid strut spacers and lift blocks entirely, it's in your best interest to do so. They both will introduce problems for you, in the short or long term.

I hope to all that is holy that this isn't the look you're going for. If so, prepare to be shamed.

Never seen a truck with negative camber out back before!

Pre runner / desert racers use 2wd. They have long travel lifts and get like 18” of travel. These rigs are jumped, sometimes quite far. No spacers or blocks. I have a 2wd and it’s quite capable off road, not 4wd capable, but surprisingly good. There’s great information on this site, these members know their stuff. Mall crawling is fine.
