I just walked out in the garage and noticed part of my back door handle is missing. I don’t drive the truck much but did take it out to Walmart this morning. I don’t see where anything collided with the door handle or anything. The back part is simply missing. I put some furnace tape over the hole so water doesn’t get in there until I can get it fixed. Has anyone else had this happen?

Maybe an attempted vehicle burg? Ford handles pop off hence the theft rate.

There isn't even a keyhole there. Anyways, do they have color matched in cement yet? Now would be a good time to swap.

I 've taken my handles off to plastidip and the big handle part you have left is just pushed in and slid back into place. The small part you are missing locks both in when you tighten the torx bolt in the door jam. Open the door, locate round rubber seal handle high on the inside door and remove. Make sure Toyota put one in, if you have one there take the torx screw driver with you to dealership, tell them it wasn't tight or worked itself loose and to GIVE you the new end piece to the handle and put it on yourself while there. Make sure it isn't stripped out or anything before you leave. The torx bolt will remain in place even when completely loose. Hope this helps.

A little of this and a little of that.
I’ve never seen that. I doubt it could just fall off but crazier things have happened. I tend to lean towards what Sean said about the stealing of your truck.

If it did “fall” off then Toyota should replace at no charge.

Happened to the rear passenger doors on the sedan I traded in when I got the Tundra. Many years after I bought the car. It's likely a part defect covered under warranty.

Do you think the piece remaining is in danger of falling off without the piece that locks it in?

No. The piece in the door that screws into the small handle part to lock it in will stay in place. Although there is a small rubber gasket that goes between the part you are missing and the door. It might be in place but check that way you get both parts when you go to the dealership.

Most likely a botched theft. Some asshats did the same to my truck except they left a nice gash up my door and could see where they tried to pry and pop my lock off.

^ that sucks, I really don’t think anyone tried to steal it. There’s not any tool marks or even a scratch. The part is simply missing. I have an excellent dealer that I’m sure will simply put a new one on it.

It did suck initially, but thankfully the officers that handled the case were top notch and I have comprehensive coverage, so I only had to pay a couple hundred deductible out of 800-1000 IIRC. Plus they didn't get in, and I was only out my tundy for four days. Got a rental car taken care of by insurance. Doc (my wife) wanted to drive the new rental so I drove her car and let her have the rental LOL
    Happy wife happy life huh?

All in all, it turned out just fine. Still hate dickbags that can't seem to get it in their head to get a freaking job instead of vandalizing others property.

I finally got my truck in to the dealership and had the handle replaced. I was told a bracket was defective. I incurred no charges.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
Never seen it break unless someone was trying to break into the truck. Most likely you just got some bad plastic. I would rather have bad plastic than bad rubber.;)
