Someone said: "Ive also wondered why people would pay top dollar for a 14 year old design , engine and tech in the 2nd gen. Reliability is great but except for the tundra nobody pays for old designs"

pre-22 Tundras are now in the 'classic' designation when compared to the 'New Unimproved Tundras'

Dbl cab you can get 8 ft bed. That's what I'm looking at but not sold on a 3.5 turbo to pull my camper.

If you have a heavy camper or tow long distance, go Diesel

I was going to buy the Silverado 1500 Duramax 3.0L which gives 30-35 mpg highway(not towing) but did not like having to add DEF and must use quality diesel.

Other then diesel you have the tried and true pre-22 Tundra with the 5.7L V8, strong 6 speed Trans and 4.30 Rear

My 2018 Tundra pulled my Deep V 18 foot boat with 75hp Merc and NEVER hesitated on the loooong PA/NY hills.

Never broke down, never overheated, never a hiccup!!!
    And i cruised between 70 and 90 on a 4 hour drive

Because for some folks, reliability matters. Kinda like bed space. And $20-30k is more half off of what most people are paying for their gen 3 twin turbos. How's that top dollar? If your trying to troll the earlier gen tundra owners you're going to have to bring more heat.

I paid 5k for my 2006 Tundra and 20k for my 2016 Tundra and the reason I’m to happy pay 20k for a 14 year old design is a proven, simple, reliable, easy to work on and maintain, vehicle, that doesn’t beep at me or not allow me, a grown man, to lock or unlock the doors when I want to, etc. is exactly what I want.

When all the 2016-2017 Tundras and Landcruisers are gone I genuinely don’t know what I will buy or drive. There’s not a single new vehicle that appeals to me in the slightest.

We’ve been searching for the next vehicle for the wife for some time because we haven’t found the used options she wants close to us and she is the same and is not looking forward to the day she’s stuck in a new POS.

We also have old Chevy work trucks and a few Hondas (2013 Pilot and 2015 Fit) in the family and it’s the same with any company. Those were just the last years vehicles were still worth buying.

Also pretending 20-30k isn’t a far cry off from paying 90k after all the interest on your brand new super computer is wild haha. I’ll take 3 used trucks and two used motorcycles for the price of one new one with worse turn radius, less space, and less enjoyable to drive, any day.

Not really. You're reading into something that isn't there, just so you can make a point literally everyone already agrees with. My post you quoted only states that Toyota found a way to demonstrate that a v8 isn't necessary for grocery gettin' !! Yes it took the boost, but that was the way they demonstrated it.

    Wurdzz iz haard.

I do suppose wurdzz iz haard when you use them one way with a clear message, only to claim they meant something else later. Your post says that V8 > V6 logic is flawed. Is it still flawed logic, or is it now not flawed since “everyone agrees with it.”? Anyway, I had no intent to argue or insinuate others are dumb and can’t comprehend “wurdzz”. Not really interested in continuing down that path. I guess everything read on a screen comes off as argumentative at face value or something.

    Once again, no it doesn't.

read. the. post. i. was. re.sponding. to.

    nevermind, I'll hold your hand:

Guy 1 "6.5' bed is always better than 5.5' bed"
Me: "Using that logic (Guy 1's, not mine), one could say that a v8 is always better than a v6. But Toyota just demonstrated a flaw in that logic, by throwing a boost in front of the v6 giving better performance from the V6 than the non-boosted v8 everyone loves.
You: "Listen idiot - if you put a boost in front of a v8, its gonna outperform a boosted v6"
Me: "Correct, but nobody is arguing against that specific position."
You: "Cherry pick wurdzz from a post to misrepresent what was actually said."

You claim to not want to argue, but are you at least noticing your pattern of not comprehending a post, then "arguing" a point that was never made?

Can we get back to how much more awesome Crew Max's are for getting groceries and other soccer mom things?

Exactly this, and well said. Like you I paid just over $20k for my 2012 in 2021. That's a far cry from the price of "top dollar." Especially when one considers that it only had 63k on the dial.

Not all. My 2022 VQ38 NA 310hp V6 Nissan Frontier is still kicking ass at 49K. Taco killer. Even the new ones with the weak turbo 4 banger that looks like a mini Tundra. Hands down!

It's nice to know that when I'm out with my bed completely full of work gear (yet covered) and my kids are short and hidden by tinted windows, there are people judging me thinking I don't need or ever use my truck as a truck.

I'll be sure to stick some drywall (that you too would need your tailgate down to carry) in my bed so people can approve of how I use my vehicle.

I've got it loaded down now with a heavy steel rack. Still hauls ass. I've upgraded with a drop down Flow FX Extreme that sounds great and no drone combined with a Z1 Offroad air induction setup that was dyno tested. I'm good to say the least. Z1 SC in the works. Saw Z1's SC'd Frontier at the last Overland Expo here in Loveland. Bad ass. CBI, has their own Taco destroyer Frontier too.

The 2011-2019 Chevy 6.0 gasser is the way to go. Not the newer versions. Chevy wise, super reliable for us, same with their 5.3 honestly.

The 3500 HD 6.0 gasser is the only camper hauler I’d consider if you want a decent ride and more capacity than a Tundra. The Ford 250/350 are just equipment that’s road legal (harsh ride). The Chevy 2500/3500 are pretty plush by comparison, and the jump from 3/4 to 1T is less noticeable in the ride and comfort as well.

The Ford gasser makes for good construction or farm equipment, but I’ve had too many concussions to ever drive one.

Dodge RAM upgraded their 1500's in 2019
The 2021 and 2022 RAMS with the 5.7 HEMI have been rated as the most reliable pickup above GM and Toyota(22-25)

A reputable Diesel mechanic did a review on the GM 3.0L Duramax and said he really liked it and that it was a very good strong motor.
I spoke with a few owners who love this 3.0 Duramax = 370hp and 495 ft-lbs of Torque

The earlier version had some problems.
GM fixed those in 2023 and the latest version is supposed to be a very solid motor.
The 3.0L Duramax is in the Silverado 1500

My last Tundra was a 2018 with the 5.7
I purchased a new 2025 Tundra and returned it the next day.
Now I am in a 2022 RAM 1500 5.7L Hemi = 400hp and 410 ft-lbs of Torque = Plenty of towing power with the best 8 spd transmission out of all the 1/2 ton pickups

All the newer makes Ford, GM, Toyota RAM have problems.
    Some are worse then others.

Spend time on forums, Google and speaking with owners = that is how I decided on the 2022 RAM 1500 when I returned the 2025 Tundra

Stay with the pre-22 Tundras and you will be in the BEST position

Test drive the GM/RAM BEFORE you buy = many times

    IMPORTANT = Did you read Posts 158, 223 and 226 ???

    My FIRST choice
was to be in a 2020-21 low mileage Tundra DblCab 4WD with 8ft Bed

Searched nationwide for months and could not find one.
I actually found 3 and went to purchase but each time someone else had already begun the purchase = literally within an two hours of the initial listing.

NOTE: I continue to look for another pre-22 low mileage Tundra

Benefit = i do not have to be concerned of my motor blowing up in the New Unimproved Sundras

Toyota shot themselves in the foot

That 3.0 diesel is nice but it has a major flaw as far as I remember. It has a oil pump belt, not a chain, and this belt is behind the motor by the transmission. So every 100,000 miles the belt has to be changed and you need to pull the transmission in order to do this. Why in the H, E, double hockey sticks would they do this??? If this is one of the things they fixed, and it now has a chain there, than it would probably be a good option.

While I completely understand the displacement statement… Understand that for every 14PSI boost, incrementally you double displacement. So… at 14psi boost, we are at 6.8L displacement. Do we always need that size of a motor? Absolutely not. So, the V8 motors are alway a liter behind in displacement when power is applied to the V35 motor.

As a previous owner of a stroked 265CI Buick V6 at 30lbs boost, 750+ CI is amazing and very difficult to beat when I could cruise with AC and get 18-20MPG on a trip I wasn’t needing all the power all the time. And blast a low 10 or high 9 second quarter mile out when desired.

Turbocharging is the way to go, period.

    IMHO, Mike

YES, that was the major FLAW.

GM says that the 2025 3.0 Duramax Belt is good to 150k (according to GM).

    Time will tell.

GREAT points on turbo power - ty

Would of been nice if Toyota continued with the pre-22 Tundras along side the New V6 Turbo = They are completely different trucks.

Imagine the 5.7 Tundra with a single Turbo!!!
