Garage door damaged my 21 Tundra TRD Pro

So my wife was pulling my truck out of the garage and the door slammed down on the roof of the cabin. The door raised up a little then slammed down again.

So now I have dents on my roof and the antenna thing was destroyed. I wonder how expensive this will be to fix vs paying $500 auto deductible (and risking my rates going up with State Farm)

I think there should be a thread called "So my wife..."

Didn't somebody's wife back their Tundra up into a tree or trailer last week or last month?

OP, damage doesn't look too bad. Maybe hit it with some rubbing compound? I don't see really bad dents but if yours is a CrewMax, you can get pretty easy access from the rear of the headliner. Just 4 or 5 tabs to pull down.

I don't see anything. If you can see anything - get a PDR kit on Amazon and fix it yourself. And some polishing compound, as already advised.

That's some wonky garage door. They are supposed to have adjustments to prevent that shit from happening. If mine senses to much closing current it immediately reverses and fully opens.

My assumption was the garage door spring broke while backing out.

I don’t know anything about repairing dents. Does accessing it from underneath help?

I fix basketball dents on the roof of my 19 regularly with a simple glue-and-pull PDR kit. Having access from both sides of metal sheet helps in general, but often is not required for tin foil that Toyota uses.

Had it happen twice ... once after wife backed out when the door was on the way down and the second one broke statically one night and scared the shit out of us. We have dual springs now.

If I recall correctly someone else had an issue with a roof rack or basket that ripped off the shark fin and it was expensive. May want to check salvage yards or car-parts.co m

And watch my rates go up for that? No thanks. You can't even see the roof. Fix the antenna, make sure there is no bare metal and carry on.

That’s a bad pic could be a minor fix or a huge fuck up. You might be able to pdr and just paint your roof for a few hundred either way hire a professional pdr guy you’ll fuck it up worse trying to do it yourself

Honestly, I don't think it looks too bad. Bring it to your body shop for an estimate. Pop a dent, buff some paint, a new fin. I'm guessing not too much more than your deductible.

So a local body shop told me the roof should be replaced. They will replace roof and shark fin antenna and the light on back middle of roof cuz it’s cracked and paint whoever needs painting. They said the shark fin might leak even after being replaced if they don’t replace roof.
They said it will cost at least $5,000 minimum so insurance deductible is the way to go. My deductible is $500 with State Farm but I’m worried about my already expensive premiums skyrocketing.

Body shop would need to keep my truck 2 weeks at least.

I also took it to a paintless Dent repair place that many people in my town have used.

He said they would fix the dents, replace the shark fin and the light and that I could use some touch up paint myself for some of the scratches you can see. Total would be $1500 cash.

paint less dent repair said it would take a day maybe two days.

The dealer quoted me $1300 just to replace the shark fin since they have to remove the headliner.

Complicating matters is money is very tight right now.

I want details of what they plan on doing here

OP you should really try to do it yourself. Damage isn't too bad. You'll have a great sense of accomplishment afterwards knowing you saved yourself thousands of $$

    Here's what I would do.
    1. Tape off or clear RTV around antenna to keep elements out.
    2. Source an OEM antenna as cheap as possible. Junk yards, dealerships with sales.
    3. Clean and buff out areas of paint to know where you stand astecially.
    4. Get more estimates from PDR shops.

No way would I have the roof replaced.
