Damn. Recovering from that happening to a loved one...difficult, at best.

My neice got into drugs, and "supposedly" od with her "friends" in the room.

You remove all her clothes, drag,her down 3 flights of stairs, and dump her lifeless body in the dumpster, so the garbage guy discovers her, as she is falling into the hopper, the following morning.

Between my brothers suicide, my nieces demise, and Mom's 1st husband offing himself, it is understandable why some never recover from trauma in their lives

if you're carrying a gun because you're not feeling safe in your own home you're either:
1. a criminal that perpetually makes bad choices.
2. need to seek out a realtor
3. watching too much mainstream news and losing your grasp with reality.
4. A gun fanatic that would carry a gun to Disneyland if they allowed it.

 

I think #4 applies to me. #1 used to.

 

Nothing wrong with wanting to carry in Disneyland IMO. It's probably a great spot for a bad guy to do bad things, especially if the patrons are unarmed.

 

Fortunately it has never happened unless you count Disney shooting themselves in the foot with their terrible movies.

So if all the patrons are unarmed and a bad guy is doing bad things, what's stopping you from intervening? Hand to hand skills have the ability to diffuse situations just as quickly in these scenarios.

 

Nothing is stopping you until he fills you full of holes as you try to reach him. There's no denying that places where there are a lot of unarmed folks are a favorite target for these maniacs.

 

They do not prohibit body armor in those locations. I have a hard and soft 3A panel in my bags wherever we go. Wont stop rifle rounds, but will stop handgun stuff.

Trauma kit in the bag as well.

And toss in a NPE sharpie hole maker and you're good to go. Been through airport security with all of that, Disney and Universal.

 

Some of you guys are seriously paranoid. Or watch way too many movies.
Random acts of violence are very rare, (yes I know it does happen and wanting to be prepared) but more often than not violence between is people who know each other.

unless your a criminal/selling drugs etc. or live in a dangerous neighborhood I don’t see the point in carrying a gun to the kitchen every time I need to grab a snack

I've read that Israel trains every sxhool teacher to own and posess an ak, or ar, or sidearm for classes. This stops attacking "goon free" zone issues

Are we speaking in a mythical world where i'm the person expected to intervene or are we talking about reality where we trust that the park employs armed security to handle situations like this?
Just to give some context, I own plenty of guns and support gun culture. I just am also a person that understands there is a point where carrying a gun creates a situation where you're seen as the threat that is avoiding people from enjoying time with their family.

 

You're not entirely wrong. But you're also more than likely to get run off the road by a road rager or killed in a car accident over this happening. The probability factor of a dying via a mass shooting is still much lower than each of these scenarios individually; heart disease, cancer and unintentional accidents. The majority of gun violence victims are known by their assailant.

 

Not mythical at all. I'm in agreement with you on all your points. I support guns, gun culture and all that. I guess I was saying that if no one in the park was armed and you see a kidnapping go down what's stopping anyone from intervening? Surely a gun wouldn't be the best weapon anyway because now the victim is being used as an obstruction. And to just go blazing isn't the best way to defuse a situation like this. However, if it is a mass shooting event, then that's a whole different scenario. And as you pointed out, people pulling out guns would be subject to also being shot by other people pulling out guns not knowing who the mass shooters were.

I guess i'm more responding to that one specific circumstance where a person that feels obligated to be the arbiter of human safety with their sidearm and feels like they need to bring a gun to a family theme park yet doesn't consider they've also become a threat.
In normal day to day i'm totally fine with it provided those that carry actually train, shoot regularly and use it appropriately. Unfortunately we're also in a place where morons pack and use to feel power whether it be in traffic disputes or drastically misreads the severity of an easily diffusible situation.

I'm not doubting the effectiveness - I was inquiring about the notion of "the park employs armed security" to neutralize an active shooter.

 

On this topic I would still be inclined to think the act would still be carried out. And any armed guards would be the first targets taken out. Armed guards don't stop bank robbers. Why would they stop life robbers?

 

I think they're probably more concerned about admitting people who have been deemed firearm free and have an emergency plan to deal with anomalies.
Are they sending out employees with guns? Probably not their version of carnies but i'd bet they have armed, trained police on staff that will do just that.
Whether or not it continues to work in the future i can't say for sure but I haven't heard of an issue up to this point.

Yup. IIRC the first person taken out by the FL night club shooter years ago was the security guy. IMO the armed security at a school should not be in a uniform or otherwise identify that they're the armed guy.
