Getting ready to insulate the top of my cap. Gonna use tent poles to hold the cardboard, foam, and bubblewrap. As far as double insulation, the pink foam (r-4.0) should be on top of the bubblewrap (r-not as good), right? It’ll all be on top of the cardboard. Pink stuff on top make for more air gap.

The bed extender and boards are just jacks. The cardboard and insulation will line the inside of the top of the cap. Held up with tent poles. Nekkid, the inside of the roof of my cap hits 180*F

 

called local ARE dealer, they said they no longer really keep track of serial numbers that are older--any that start with F like mine. The newer ones they track start with N. Sales guy did call ARE to see if they could check anyways and spoke to an experienced representative who was able to provide some info--the specific struts measurements and capacity (15inch and 35lbs) are $25 a piece. They have the recessed brake lights in store that are $80 a piece. At $130 for those from the ARE dealer, I would be paying double the price I paid for the cap itself--going to try the parts from Amazon and see how they do.

 

We discussed weights/pressures not too long ago. Mine are 45# because high-rise. The roof height spec was 30#?

 

Yes, they asked if mine was high rise or even--I already ordered a 45lb pair and he said I should be good and its not too far off from the 35lb replacements--may just go with a 35lb anyway just to be safe.

Oh thats sick! I was interested in getting a GFC ever since they came out. Mine is pretty similar and used that for ideas on how to build mine.

Thats a nice setup you have there. Is your interior just a blank slate right now?

Thanks bro. Same here, I really like how light weight it is compared to say a full blown 4wheelcamer. Yep interior is blank so far.
Been dealing with getting the camper and seals to clamp down correctly. My truck doesn’t have the caps for the top of the bedsides and allows the camper to shift a bit. Just cut some flat stock to fill the gap a bit. Before I just ratchet strapped it down when out wheeling haha

 

Is the gas strut switch for lights? Dont bother. Get magnetic tent lights.

 

Good to know those 5100’s can hang in that long. Got a set on standby in the garage for when I change out the suspension.

 

Cleaned the blower motor and vacuumed out the little cubby the resistor goes into

mine wasn’t as bad as I expected. I will be going back with some coil spray and a garden hose

 

A lot of these parts are interchangeable.

 

I had a vibration in my Tacoma after adding HD leaf springs. Went away when I lifted the front...You might be right.

 

What I did might not be the "right" way...but I removed both rear shackle bolts on each side. I definitely needed to move the axle up and down to get things apart, relieve pressure from the bolts, then get it back together. Especially to feed that shackle-to-leaf spring bolt in the opposite way. You need the shackle fully detached from the truck to move it up high enough that it's out of the way of the frame, then you can feed the bolt in from the inside, instead of from the outside like I had it.

At first I tried one side at a time, just taking the tire off the side I was working on and letting it droop, but that put the axle at an angle and I couldn't get the shackle lined back up into the hanger (at least not without serious BFH persuasion). So I took off both tires and supported both sides on jackstands, just like I did when I did the full replacement job. I didn't need to touch the u-bolts or front hanger. Just had the frame on jackstands and moved the axle up & down as needed to move the rear shackle where I wanted it with the floor jack under the rear diff.

 

Lemme get more pics of that rear bumper. I need more motivation to cut more of this truck up lol.

 

Ceramic coat on the windshield lasted about a year and a half. Applied another coat to windshield. If you haven't experienced it...it's like rain x gone wild.

 

Ill try to take more pics of it for you tonight. This bumper was one of the first things i had done to the truck when i bought it. I had it welded up and then after that I learned to weld and did the other stuff myself including the swing out.

I still remember the guy that welded it for me when he had the quarter panels marked up with tape and ready to cut, asking me: Are you sure you want to cut these here, once done we cant go back lol.

Love the look and function of the higher clearance. Now when I see an uncut Tundra bed, it just looks like it hangs so low!

 

Question on this.

I have the original OEM Toyota windshield. 1st owner of my truck lived down a dirt road, drove it daily, didn't change his wiper blades enough. I have fine scratches, which I know I could potentially polish out with Cerium Oxide, but ... does that ceramic coating fill fine scratches?

I'm just wondering, b/c sometimes when driving into the sun at dusk or dawn, the sun will catch the fine scratches just right and it's aggravating.

Are you using the Griot's kit?

 

I've been a RainX junkie since the day I first used it. Every piece of glass gets it. My experience has been about 6-8 months on the front windshield (I swear it used to be longer), and a couple years on all the side glass/mirrors/back glass.
I have Ceramic that I started using on the paint, and I almost did what you are talking about once. How's the longevity on that?
