I was at my dealer 2 weeks ago and the service manager told me they did their first long block swap. Mentioned it was a test one sent from Toyota to figure out the timing of the swap. They had the long block swapped in 2 days.

One of the dealerships I use in my area (Austin, TX) is horrible. Today was the 2nd time I showed up at the dealer for warranty work that I was notified that the part had arrived and when I showed up a week later, the part was no longer available. The same thing had happened attempting to repair the fuel line recall with the permanent fix and when I got to the dealer- the advisor had told me they ran out of kits. I do not understand why the dealerships don't hold the replacement parts for the specific customer that the part was ordered for to begin with. I do not like dealerships nor do I trust them- I am not looking forward to the motor replacement.

From what I understand is that the dealers are in a bit of a pickle themselves. So Toyota puts these recall parts on a "MAC" release(basically the dealership has to jump through some hoops to order them) and it tends to not sit well with some dealers special order process. These parts might be coming in for your car/truck, but may NOT be tagged for a specific customer. So if the dealership has parts on the shelf they may or may NOT know who's car/truck said parts are for. And if they have parts on the shelf, specifically for the fuel line recall, and do NOT complete the recall on trucks that are at the dealership with an open Repair Order written up for the recall, Toyota's tells them they need to be doing these trucks....so they are constantly stealing from Peter to pay Paul situation.

Here's an interesting (discouraging?) story... I called Stevinson Toyota West just now asking how far out they were scheduling the engine recalls. The person that answered the phone said that they were not scheduling any and had not done any of the replacements. I was surprised at this since this is a pretty good size dealership.

In my experience with dealing with this specific dealership there is nothing but gross incompetence there and I wouldn't' trust a single word they tell you.

I find it next to impossible to believe they haven't done a single engine rebuild or replacement considering they are one of the major dealership in the Denver area.
