What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Been a busy day today, this is the last thing I've done though. Picked this shell up--the guy listed it last night for $75, I immediately messaged him asking all the necessary questions. He claims it doesnt leak, but it needs the hydraulics replaced for the door, doesn't have a brake light, one of the rubber lining tubes that split the driver's side window is missing, and the paint is in pretty terrible shape. Interior is carpet lined , comes with keys for the lock, only has 3 clamps. All easily fixable and cheap. I plan on sanding and raptor lining anyway so not concerned about the body/paint. Productive day but definetly enjoying piecing this rig together bit by bit

 

Splurged and got myself some WeatherTech mats. My family is just muddy all the time. I’m muddy. My kids are even worse. It was time and I think it’ll be totally worth it for the next 15 years of abuse that this truck is gonna take. I kind of expected them to be a little more flexible and sit a little flatter, but maybe they’ll sort of mold in over time???

 

I had some in my last taco, they settle over time. Not a lot but enough to form a bit. Loved those mats, super easy to clean

 

Mine did not. Especially against the kick panel.

And I have driver power seat. The seat rails collide with the rear one.

Overall they did a shit job on their "laser cut fit" of that product.

 

Nor did mine. They are not relaxed after many years but have a slightly “bowed” look with the edges curled slightly up.

 

ARE may still make parts for it. Find the serial# plate. Call an authorized dealer and see if they carry parts. I may be able to help source parts.

 

Fixed the shackle bolt I had going the wrong direction. I noticed it when we first did the job, but because of the longer shackles I used, the bolt end actually fit really nice in a cutout, almost like it was meant to sit there. But after a couple weeks driving, I noticed it was hitting the edges of the cutout.

Then I cut an inch off the Sumo Springs to make them just slightly taller bump stops. Air bag install is next.



And I cut the long ends off the U-bolts while I was under there.

 

Fixed a misfire. Got lucky and only needed a coil

I keep one in my truck. Saved my ass not once, but twice.

I really need to go in and replace all of the coil bolts with new ones though. Last time a coil went bad it was a whole saga to get it out, the bolt heads get rusty and a 10mm just spins.

 

I couldn't see a serial number/boiler plate anywhere. Could be under the carpet somewhere, I did order some parts that will hopefully do the trick. I did see a part number of some sort on the struts installed that are bad (picture attached)not sure if it was original or a replacement though. ..if they don't fit or work well I'll probably replace and inquire with an ARE dealer as recommended. mine is driver side rear top, where the window starts to curve, but its mid rise or high rise or something.

 

Horse shit fix today. Thought my temp gauge sensor to the dash was out. Went to pull the old one and the connector was broken. The physical female connection was separated from the plastic housing. While trying to get the wire out it pulled the female side off. Stripped the wire back, opened up what I could of the connector, trimmed and slipped a solder butt connector over it and made it work. Didn’t have enough heat shrink and it was in the 40’s so I hastily slapped some electrical tape on the rest of it.

so the temp gauge works again and now my P0156 apparently was a false positive with the new exhaust on the truck? Been riding dirty for a year haha.

 

Ah ok good to know, if its anything like mine then it's likely under the carpet. Is that a light you have installed? I'm thinking of wireing LED lights of some sort directly to the battery(off an inline fuse) and have a magnetic switch or finding out how to attach a switch the struts so that it turns on automatically when opening the door

Would I be able to remove the back window on my ARE camper shell and throw it on the back of this ARE one or anyone have experience doing this? They look to be the exact same model. This person claims it's for an AC but has it on his DC and says it still fits, it just doesn't have the back window and looks like the whole back frame is missing along with it.

 

So I really like the look of my factory steel wheels I had, but the offset was causing some rubbing on the frame and my UCA which I didnt have before with my -10 offset pro comps.

Been wanting these Nomad Convoy wheels ever since I saw them, just didnt love the price tag. Well they have an up to 25% off sale going on now. So ordered these, went to will call the same day as they are only 10 minutes away from me and got em put on this weekend. Ready for Utah and T2S! Oh yea and these have a -10 offset so should get less rubbing on the frame and probably no contact with the UCA now.

 

Were you able to just remove the shackle/hanger bolt to get the clearance to swap the leaf spring/shackle bolt to the correct orientation? Did you have to try to lift up that end of the leaf spring to get clearance? Or did you have to remove the leaf spring?

 

Had an epiphany of sorts this morning. Think my driveline vibes could be related to my new HD leafs. Sits about 1” higher than before and higher than my previous stock measurement before the topper. Gonna try some washers for spacers on my carrier bearing and see if it changes. Will report back.

 

I went back and checked, turns out it was on the ceiling. May call an ARE dealership and see what they say

 

Good news, bad news. Added a few washers on each side to the carrier bearing. Zero change in seat vibes at 35-41pmh. Also, my 5100 boots in the rear are shredded. They have around 100k on them and need to be replaced anyway. Hmmm. No good news after all.

 

Did the vibrations start before you got those new tires?

I did all the freshen up pretty close to each other. Can’t rule the tires out though. Not used to 35-40mph being tires though usually more like 55-60mph.

 

The ones I have in my double cab fit better than the ones I had in my access cab.

 

I bet it's your tires. Aren't they Chinese made?
