A/B comparisons as of today. As other TC installs come online and we can get some better samples and more boost, it'll be interesting to see what the turbo charts look like to get to a matching time.

The amount of instant power is clear with the SC. I'm also curious if the 5.29s ended up hurting my boost since there's a little less load vs stock gearing.

    Regardless, pretty cool comparison

Not certain if my MAP was bad or if the connection was loose or maybe just the under heat was screwing with it after a month or so. It worked this morning for my first drive, then it didn’t the second. Went to pull it out and the connector came apart real easily. I decided to move it to the glove box to keep it away from heat and anything else and it’ll be easier to swap out if I decide to. I’m gonna tape the connector up and see how it goes. New one arrives today so if it goes weird again it won’t be an issue.

Interesting. I wonder if the hoses need to get hit with some compressed air prior to final connection just to rule out any contamination/debris. Both of us having this issue is strange

That was short lived. Worked pulling out of the garage. Dead next time I start it. Oh well.

Seems you've concluded that it's probably not a connection issue, nor with it being mounted in the engine compartment/heat related. That's something.

Ya it’s pretty definitive. Now the new one is mounted inside so hopefully no more issues. Which is good cause I got the green light for the meth and another psi and I’m towing tomorrow so I really need the gauge functioning haha.

Yes. Last summer I was chasing a 0.0psi issue for an entire week while in Maine. Only way I knew it was making boost is because the AEM was lighting up when I thought I should be into positive pressures.

No rhyme or reason, it started working on the return trip, about into the journey. It works right 95% of the time and then will stop reading positive pressures again for a few cycles.

I've added zip ties, I've blown into the lines to confirm I can get a positive reading, everything seems to work fine except for when the truck is running. I'm assuming there's a piece of debris somewhere in the lines or in the sea or itself now that causes it. Purely speculation, though. It's not a leak as it's been smoke tested plenty of times now.

Mine sticks at -26.8” and then randomly while driving around it’ll start wildly bouncing between boost and vac and you can hear the solenoid pulsing and see the “% duty” flash on and off and then it goes back to -26.8”.

Hmmm, that's cute. No cuts or melting on any of the vacuum lines? Especially down by the heat shield? I can see that causing your issues if it's just enough to constantly fluctuate pressure to the WG to trigger the DC warning and drop your boost reading. Soapy water at every "T" as well?

Nope. Nothing. Just -26.8” and then randomly bounce and then back to -26.8”. Doesn’t matter if I’m accelerating or just cruising. It goes nuts for a minute and then stops.

Any particular reason you'd want to go with a turbo over a SuperCharger?

I know why I'm going with a SuperCharger....
It's the same reason I went with the SuperCharger in my 98 Tacoma.

No boost unless I want it is my main reason. Drives normal with no extra load on anything even if I drag a gear out to near redline. You have to want it to boost before it will. Doesn’t mean it’s laggy, just means you have to want it. I like how they come online and the sound. I don’t have to push as much boost to make the same or similar power as a supercharger. The big front mount intercooler keeps my IAT’s at 5-10* above ambient even when in boost so it’s safer on the engine.

    At least you have reasons.
So many people out there have no idea why they want a Turbo over a Supercharger......they just do.

I love the simplicity and the hit from a turbo. It’s intoxicating. Once I get the final green light that all is well at 7psi I’ll get a video of a standing start full throttle run.

Boost, and vehicles in general is definitely a better alternative addiction than what they could otherwise get into! If they want to have that next cool car or truck part, I guess they won’t want to spend their money on drugs or booze! That’s how I was anyway.

Having owned a turbo LGT prior I can’t dispute the rest of the Turbo positive experience comments, that said Modern superchargers with bypass valves actually work this same way. It bypasses the boost back into the rotor inlet, and when you give it more throttle the greater vacuum at the SC snout gradually/linearly closes the bypass valve at the persuasion of your right foot to force the air into the engine. With the bypass valve open it uses less than 1HP to spin the supercharger. There seems to be a common misconception about this aspect of SC operation out there. Topfuel roots blowers I suppose don’t have this, but totally different application.

Towing with a turbo makes life easy. Going up hills and never getting into boost but holding speed better and didn’t have to downshift where I normally do. It’s a dream.

    Highest I saw was 4psi.

Truck ran great. Heading home I just set the cruise at 70 and let er run. There were a couple of hills where I was at 4psi or so for 5-7sec and I saw coolant temps get to 201* and then the moment I crested they dropped to 190-195*. Trans never got over 173*. IAT’s up the hills were ~30* higher than ambient. AFR’s were 11.8. Load was around 75-85%. Ambient temps out side were 50* and we had a 20mph head wind.

When the turbo comes online it’s like towing with a diesel. It just pulls and accelerates and doesn’t care. It’s a whole different truck.

I’m gonna test the meth this week and bump the boost one more PSI to ~7psi and then call it good. I think the meth is going to do exactly what I want when towing. Come on just enough to keep things cool and happy but not so much as to burn through it. Can’t wait to see how it runs when it’s a 105* outside.

Glad you had a positive first towing experience. Now the real fun begins as you start learning how it all behaved and where you can start the tweaking.

Example, the quick spike in temps reminds me of my early install. Easily resolved by looking for coolant lines near the turbo and getting that good DEI (or Amazon knockoff) wrapped around them. Towards the end of the towing season, I was seeing 15-20* after 30-60 seconds (sometimes more) of continuous positive boost. It's all easy, though, and fun to just putter around with.

    Congrats again and enjoy!

That's awesome and exactly what I have seen towing anything from 2-3000lbs up and over 6000lbs, it just does it all without any drama. BFlooks is a different beast due to his weight and the brick of air dam at the top, but he as well, has similar feelings on it. Glad your first tow test went well. I'll be around all week if ya need anything!

Ha Ha, trade for the GX570 and then install the kit?
