If you aren't part of the recall with a '22.....how? It doesn't make sense that you are not and recalled trucks get long blocks (crate), not a short block tear down/rebuild.

hey guys. i got my truck back on Friday 3/28/25. They took about 2.5-3 days to do the engine recall and also did the fuel line permanent fix. For some particular reason, the advisor was told by Toyota that they had to say 'short block' repair to customers but it was actually the whole engine assembly. I opened the hood and saw that the engine was brand spanking new minus some finger prints. It was extremely dusty and dirty before lol. My truck is a 2022 Limited crewcab RWD, non hybrid and 56K miles.

    Love this forum, thanks guys!

Just an fyi touchpoint. 2022 TRD Off Road, 56k miles haven't had any engine issues at all save for the mysterious lag sometimes. Took the truck in to Gloucester Toyota in Virginia on Thursday for oil change and state inspection.

I asked how many replacements they've done. Zero was the answer. Said they are having a hard time getting the engine. Doesn't really square with y'all are saying/reporting.

I'll most likely be approaching 70+ before I get mine done.

My suspicion is that some dealers are not proactive and leaving it to owners to say "do my Tundra" rather than contacting owners they have knowingly sold vehicles to or are doing service on.

Not trying to be a dick, but suspicions are like assholes. Everyone has one. I was just reporting/sharing a fact as of last week at Gloucester Toyota. For what it's worth Gloucester Toyota proactively reached out to me a month or a month and half ago and asked if I wanted to schedule the engine replacement to which I declined.

    I'm in Phase 2.
Checked in on March 6 and my guy said very soon and I'll call you.
I received the call on March 30. He put in the new engine order and I have a live text feed for updates.
He confirmed that they remove the cab.
They will perform both recalls and replace the flawed and broken driver seat plastic assembly. He said "poor design, we'll replace it".
Appears my odyssey will begin in a matter of weeks.

My 2023 was also built in Nov 22. The last schedule posted here had us in the very last phase with date TBA. Probably won't happen until next winter, earliest. My guess would be next spring or early summer.

Maybe, who really knows, my dealer said that was info from Toyota themselves. My service guy keeps a close tab on stuff for me. But in the end I dont care much, the longer I drive it before the new engine the better.

What happens to trucks that blow their motor before their phase comes up? Do they jump the cue or get a short block?

If they are part of the recall Toyota puts them in a loaner until their time comes

Good question. I would think they jump the queue but I don't know that. Seems that Toyota would want to minimize the amount of time they have to supply a loaner.

Is it also true that not all dealers are giving a Tundra, or Tacoma, as a loaner? Are some giving small cars?

You would think that, but no Toyota pays LONG rentals, we have a blown motor here since August. The guy was told he has to wait until his window is open

I don't know the numbers of how many have been replaced by now, but it sure sounds like it's off to a slow start. I'm adding 6-12 months to the original Toyota schedule in my mind....our truck is Nov 2022 build MY 2023. So yea, getting it replaced before the end of 2025 looks unlikely at this point.

ps: the conspiracy theorist in me now thinks this is a strategy: Do a slow roll on the replacements. This will save money as a lot of people will then be forced to wait till higher mileage at which point they might think "heck, I've got lots of miles on the truck now, if it was going to fail it would have, so I'll just skip the hassle of the replacement process". I recall that the original $$ figure Toyota had allocated to this was lower than made sense based on estimated cost / engine. Maybe it now makes more sense if quite low percentage of owners will actually get the replacement. Just a thought.

You can't pass on safety recalls. The only way would be to never take it into a Toyota dealer again... and then you still would not be able to trade it or sell it. But it is true that if they slow roll it some of the affected vehicles would have been totaled or otherwise taken out of service by then.

Good points. Just curious, I was to sell it privately without the safety recall what would happen? I can see that no dealer would take it in without the recall being done, and certainly not be able to resell it.

A couple of years ago I sold a 2013 Honda Ridgeline to Carmax. It had a safety recall for gas tank at the time that was not completed because Honda had not begun the repairs. I recall that Carmax was aware of that but bought it, and I presume resold it, anyways.

    Hello everyone,

My Tundra has been scheduled for the engine replacement in 3 weeks (April 22). Mine is a 2022 TRD Sport 4x4 Double Cab delivered back in April 2022. I think the build date was December 2021 but not sure. Mileage is just under 30K. I'm retired so I don't drive too much these days.

The dealership is Edmark Toyota in Nampa, ID. According to my service rep, they have 6 service bays designated for the engine recall and have replaced scores of engines so far. He said it should take a whole day so they're loaning a 2025 Tacoma. Once I get it back, I'm taking a short road trip to Wyoming or Montana to see how it runs. I'll post an update after that trip.

I too live in the Treasure valley and would consider Edmark for this work. I'm interested to hear how it goes. I've heard the other big dealer is not allocating much space to this. Not sure why.

Not sure either but last time I was at Peterson, it seemed smaller than Edmark so maybe they have less capacity than Edmark.

As for my truck, I decided to install a TRD skid plate and cat shields after the engine replacement. My service rep, Scott, said they can order and hold them at the dealership until my appointment. He said it'll take about 2 weeks to get them in which works well for me.

Just 2 more failures on the spreadsheet since I last checked, a 2023 and 2024 after the 2024 Sequoia.

My 2022 just went in last weekend.

I finally got the dreaded 'reduce engine power' warning just after I hit 45K. I called Toyota right away and initially they said they would book my engine replacement for June, as that's the first appointment they had, as it was 'safe' to still drive my truck as long as the check engine light wasn't flashing. I emailed the service manager, said that this was unacceptable and that I was dropping my truck off right away.

They were actually pretty great about it. They did the diagnostic right away; turns out the issue was a wastegate in the turbo. It obviously didn't make sense to replace a turbo and then swap the whole engine two months later, so they bumped me up the queue. They told me it should be about 2 weeks until they have all the parts and 3 weeks until I have my truck back. In the meantime, they rented me a Ram 1500 GT, at no cost. They were quite apologetic about my initial treatment, so I'm not sure if I just got a new employee or something, but in the end they did things right.

I'm optimistic given the feedback I've heard about the new engines; will be looking forward to testing it out. In the meantime, I'm in an absurdly loud RAM that scares all children/pets in a 12 mile radius when I start the ignition.

Just called JAllen Toyota in Gulfport, MS about getting the new engine for my ‘22 Platinum…after checking my VIN they put me on their “wait” list…there are 23 ahead of me. I wasn’t given an estimate on how long it would be before it happens but since the truck has been flawless for the 36000+ miles it’s been driven I’m in no hurry.

Sad to see 2 more 2024s bit the dust.
Since I have an August 2023 build, this erodes my confidence further.
I just have to make it till this November to trade in.

Well folks… I’m officially a member of the dreaded few whose engines have blown up(not literally it just adds the drama). 2022 SR5 43K miles, no previous issues. My PDX brethren may have seen my Green rig rolling around with my MRYLND license plate. I was on a long road trip chasing down some sort of pre becoming a dad in July western dream or what many would call an existential crisis. Running through the Nevada high desert in BFE on my way to camp outside of Bishop CA my engine went out going about 90. 3 hours from Vegas, 4 hours to Reno, and 3 hours to the Bishop Toyota dealership. Tow driver somehow got to me within an hour. Long tow to Bishop in the dark with cows crossing the road in free range country made for an exciting trip with my tow driver… Wonderful guy but unfortunately was ripping some mini shooter shots and him taking cigarette breaks every 30 minutes outside of the truck… He seemingly determined I was a chill enough guy and I wouldn’t mind lol frankly he saved my ass so I wasn't going to say anything. Somehow survived the trip to Bishop and spent the night in a motel. Woke up & spent 5 hours on the phone explaining my situation to the folks at Toyota corporate after the dealership couldn’t help me. Initial Toyota brand engagement folks didn’t give a shit until I got to a manager and then they were extraordinarily helpful. Eventually got the dealership to make sure it was a recall related engine issue. Set up a long haul tow back to Portland OR with Toyota Roadside which they were actually pretty good at figuring out once I plead my case to 5 different people. Got into a rental car and drove the 13 hours back up to Portland. Truck got picked up a few days later in Bishop and I got it back from the shop today after only a few days. Luckily my local dealer had an engine on hand. Toyota said they are going to reimburse me for all my expenses(hotel, rental car, etc…) I’ll reply here once that actually happens. Dealership told me the new engine does not get a new warranty and will only last until my 60,000 mile mark or 5 years like the rest of the drive train… I have a feeling the engine seizing will create more issues down the line so I’m going to push Toyota for a free extended warranty.. I’ll let you all know how that goes.
