So I have been watching different auctions for a TRD Pro. Hard to find this truck at auctions. Came across this one and really liked it as my next project.

Guess what, it sold for unbelievable $27,500 at dealers auction with a salvage title.

TRD PRO owners hold on to your trucks...

I didn’t buy it. Someone else did.
Frame was fine. Truck needs about 7k-8k worth of work which puts it at 35-36k.
    Kinda high I think.

Nah, I came across this one and it got sold at the auction for $27,500.

I won’t pay that much. I would rather get a CM SR5 and build me a better version of TRD PRO....

7k-8k my ass. This was my 2014 SR5. Try right at 11k to fix it, with none of the airbags deployed. I have since traded it for a 2017 just like.

I think most people change to the Pro grille because the chrome is UGLY. Helps that the Pro is OEM and looks good

Good move on the trade. I would have done the same thing. And I agree, your right the salvage buyer is probably gonna be all in for 11k, maybe more at a really good shop that does excellent work. I would not touch a salvage car or truck with a ten foot pole. A $$$$$ pit. I say No, to the no no lol!

A few pitfalls to salvage titles- most banks won't finance them, most dealers won't look at them or take them on trade, factory warranty ahh no, insurance companies will naturally only pay salvage title $$$ worth in an accident. The list goes on and on...

This Pro's title will probably get laundered and moved around from state to state until it's sold to some unsuspecting buyer with a clean title at some roadside dealer. Nooooo, that would never happen....Only in Merica.

A body shop done it. It took them over a month, and it still wasn't right, so I took my diminished value money and traded for a new 17'.

Too bad you paid 11k for this, most likely insurance. There are ways to get things done right at a lower cost which obviously not everyone knows...

Yup, there is a downside to salvage title. I wonder why buyer paid so much for this truck. It wasn’t one buyer in the auction there were several who were bidding for it. Sometimes the winner looses in the bidding war and I think that’s what happened here.

Not true. I have Toyota Matrix that has a salvage title, if it were totaled, my insurance company values is as a clean title. YMMV but that is how Liberty Mutual works.

I did an estimate on just the air bag stuff, this is list price for new Toyota stuff. 6062.95. The seat bag is blown also, so you got that and a new cover for it.

The other guy's insurance paid for it, not mine. So, really I didn't give a shit, but it wasn't right. The gaps were off, the bottom of the door stuck out. Even if it had been fixed back to perfect, I probably would have traded it in anyways.

Agree, I am not in a favor of fixing something like what you had. I would replace the doors and fender from a junkyard, paint it and be done w it.
Less labor hours and better looking truck. It’s easier to fix anything mechanical but bodywork is a bitch. My buddy’s Bodyshop does over million $ in Sales a month so he really knows his shit.

U can get most of the airbags from salvage yards. Buy the clock spring and reprogram the airbag module plus the seatbelts. Now divide $6062 by 3 and u are right there.

Exceptions with Liberty I guess. Never heard of a salvage titles insured as a clean title...only "revived title"...interesting. Maybe liberty does but not all insurance companies do...see linky.

Insuring the vehicle should not be an issue...as long as you are paying, insurance companies will take $$$. I think its when a total loss claim is filed then things get interesting as to how they settle salvage titled cars and trucks. I can't see how a salvage vehicle will ever hold value like a non salvage, just is not logical.

Been there some that. They ask for pictures and receipts for the work done. Had a Mini Cooper which was heavily modded that got stolen because of that. I had the receipts and pics. Insurance company paid it all...
