I've paid dearly by being a member here.... My '21 Pro now has more accessories and mods on it than I ever knew it needed thanks to these damn threads... :frusty:
I mean seriously, a rock climber's chalk bag clipped into my center console to hold a full size nalgene... Yes, please!!!! :spending:

All jokes aside; this forum has been my first and only experience w/any form of social media, and I've received far more than I would have ever expected by being here (including some friendships)... That happens because of a proper state of balance between the purpose, the content, the rules, the staff, and the members!!!

Discussion forums can lead to spending more money.

Discussion forums came about early on with the public use of the internet. Social media was a later development. I wouldn't consider a discussion forum to be "social media." There just isn't the sharing of personal information---pictures, family, work history, likes, interests, in the same way as say MySpace or later, Farcebook (I mean, Facebook). ;)

My first experience of a discussion forum was perhaps, too good of an experience. Parallax Bill's Surplus Rifle Forum. Largely defunct now as it was dependent on the cheap importation of surplus weapons, which largely ended in 2008 for reasons I can't discuss here (Coc violation Paragraph #2?) but for a time it was an amazing site. Perhaps because it was so homogeneous in membership opinions.

As to "discussion forums leading to more money being spent".....I can count in single digits the guns I've bought that were not the result of discussion forum membership.

Most human communication is via body language followed by voice tone, neither of which typed text allows. I typically follow a typed joke with "LOL" or some emoji of a laughing facial expression for that reason, i.e. :)  etc.

The lack of follow up "LOL" by other members chiming in suggests they too didn't get it.

Thanks for the clarification though. Appreciate that. In the future if I am not sure as to intent, I'll just ask. :)

Not to worry. If you think a joke taken seriously is bad, you should try the opposite. Laughing at something that is actually serious is far worse. :D:rofl:;):):p

I'll take some of the blame for it. If I took her shooting with me then she probably would get back into it.

And its not that I don't want to take her, its the fact that I myself haven't been to the range in a while.

Had one of those for a little while. Great tiny gun. Unfortunately my hands are too big and the web of my hand would catch the slide when it came back. Not worried about a little slide bite especially under stress but this was more of a gnawing than a bite...anyway, great little gun. Shot everything it was fed. Loved the capacity. 12 rnds of 380 is no joke.

That's weird, I had a reply but it didn't show up. Anyway, a 1911 in .380? That's a big handgun for such a small round. Unless you're talking about the various Colt Mustang copies. I have a Sig 938 in 9mm. It's my edc.

Those lists are a joke. I'm on a "no fly" list but was still able to get security clearance at an international airport as a janitor.

    None….so far
Occasionally she will carry an Sig 938. She tends to like 1911 style pistols. Personally I like a double stack polymer pistol, but to each their own.

Right! Yep, there's not a "one style fits all" handgun. I've carried just about everything at one time or another and the 938 is just about right for me. The only caveat is the capacity. In this day, multiple attackers is a real thing. Oh well. It is what it is.

My wife has very little interest in guns.

One day she gets this idea in her head that she wants to start carrying. We bought her a pistol, I got her a nice holster, she went and got her PA conceal carry permit. I told her she can’t carry it until she either takes some safety courses and/or does some range time with me.

    This was 3 years ago.

Still won’t go to the range with me. Pistol is in my safe.

Yeah, sometimes it just doesn't take. I had a neighbor that was all hot on learning how to shoot so she could get her permit. So I gave her the safety course, took her to the range, gave her one on one instruction, she shot well. Never missed her target but then after all of that she said she doesn't think she could shoot someone in self defense. So, sometimes as anyone does, they get all crazy about doing something and then never follow through.
