Gas Cap - how long after being left off until dash notification?

Hey again everyone,

I have a question regarding the gas cap on my 2021 tundra.

Today, after leaving work, I noticed a check gas cap notification on my dash. I checked the gas cap and it was seated in the door as if I had been putting gas in.

I did put gas in it 5 days ago but have only driven it for 2 of those days and I didn’t see any notification until today.

The question: is it possible I forgot to replace the cap and it took the computer this long to notice, or did somebody possibly tamper with the tank?

Also, leaving the fuel cap off isn’t typical for me and I honestly can’t remember the last time I did it.

Probably had to run a drive cycle before it noticed.

Thank you for the input. I used to drive a Silverado that had no gas cap so maybe I did forget it after all.
