    Tempting
I’ve started thinking about one myself, but the state is claiming labor shortages and a 12-week wait or some shit

It’s a satin black - no texture (smooth). They sandblast then coat…same finish I have on the rear bumper and the current SSO “slimline” up front.

How would you compare the ride characteristics between the Bilstein and the OEM Fox? I have 78,000 miles on my 2020 Pro and really like the factory ride characteristics but know that I am looking at a rebuild soon and would consider an upgrade if it made sense without moving too far from the factory ride.

I haven’t really spent a lot of time “dialing” the Bilsteins because life keeps getting in the way. They are on the factory “middle” setting and I’ve got a few thousand miles of random roads (shitty freeways, good freeways, country asphalt, country gravel, some random forest roads). I’m very happy with them - I tend to hit bumps and potholes more aggressively now but they just swallow them up, yet response and handling is still just as solid and controlled (I don’t even notice the fact I removed the RAS, except some sag when I put a heavy load in the bed).

Got the C4 Hybrid installed today.

Jack Jack helped me with the tear down of the old bumper. Getting the SSO bumper off was an ordeal… the 12mm bolt for the driver side lower fender liner was seized up, and getting on it hard just snapped the spot welds holding the square nut to the factory stamped steel piece. So I had to remove a bit more stuff from the front on that side so I could get down inside behind the fog lights to unplug things and reach the nuts. Plus I needed to fully determinate my winch power leads and fish those and the S8 light power cable out through the opening behind the radiator side shroud, so a bunch of stuff came out. I also had a small issue with the Agency6 shackle block - the two screws that secure the pin plate where seized up and the allen heads rounded out. So I had to dremel a slot in them to use a standard flathead screw driver… I’ll be ordering new ones and using a little anti-seize on them when I put them back in.
    IMG_3660.jpg IMG_3662.jpg

Then came transferring the light and switch to the new bumper, which was mostly uneventful. Luckily I had saved the original hardware for the S8, because with the SSO I only needed the two side screws - their tabs are on the side of the light and match up with the factory holes perfectly, while the C4 has a tab under the light that uses the BD factory mounting bracket hardware.
I did find that the clutch lever on my X20 Gen3 wouldn’t work in the same position (rotated forward) that I had it in the SSO, so I had to pull that apart and rotate the clutch back to the top position (that will require reaching in a little farther to get to, but not a big deal…there’s a lot more room inside the C4 bumper). I may order a replacement clutch lever that isn’t trimmed now that there’s enough room for it.
    IMG_3663.jpg

With the bumper hanging on two nuts, that was when I realized the hardware kit for it was sitting at my MIL’s in her shop because it’s been too damn wet and cold the past several months to dream of doing stuff at the house. So I had to jump in the wife’s car and run over there to get that small bag of washers and bolts before aligning the gaps and tightening down all the hardware.
    IMG_3664.jpg
Then came carefully feeding all the winch cables and light bar cable back up into position and putting together all the parts that were removed. There’s plenty of room to reach all of the bolts and nuts with this thing, so that was really nice compared to how cramped it is reaching everything on the SSO (because it is made to be compact and look more OEM).

After getting the bumper all buttoned up and the grill back in place, I got the fog lights installed by borrowing some brackets from another set of S2’s that I plan on putting in the outer corners (my fogs were originally ordered with Tundra fog brackets, so I need to source some new brackets for the S2’s). Then reconnected the parking sonar and tucked all the wires up and zip tied out of the way.

My driver's side Boost Auto mirror had stopped power folding a few weeks ago and I've kind of been thinking about getting rid of the dumbo ears anyway.

Found a set of Platinum mirrors from a wrecking yard not far away - they were a little more than I wanted to pay but they were in good shape.
    Driver Side - 87940-0C570
    Passenger Side - 87910-0C570

Had a little time to get them mounted today and take care of some of the wiring, but I will have more wiring to go to fully integrate them how I want.

First and foremost, Pins 9 and 18 on both mirror plugs (truck side) need to be swapped for the BSM system to work. That's pretty quick and painless.
Next up, wires need to be run for the EC (auto-dimming) glass. Pins 13 and 14 are EC- and EC+ (respectively) and so I prepped wires on those and fished them through the door and grommet into the kick panel area in the cab on both sides.

I had also previously installed the VLED puddle lights into the mirrors, and when I originally wired the Boost mirrors I ran the power to the reverse lights using the same pin as the + power for the puddle lights (Pin 6) so my eventual plan is to get those tied into either the dome lights or the footwell lights instead of a switch.

(Driver's side plug shown - Passenger is M6 and looks the same).
    upload_2025-3-22_11-21-14.png

So, for now, they are mounted and the following functions work:
    • Power Fold
    • Turn Signals
    • Power Movement
    • Heat
    • BSM
    • Puddle Lights (via switch)
    IMG_3718.jpg

Forgot to add a couple pictures of the VLED puddle light install...

    IMG_3491.jpg

    IMG_3492.jpg

    IMG_3493.jpg

And for clarity, when it is all done, this will be how the connectors at the mirrors are now wired

Also pulled apart my wiring panel and dug into the fuse box to figure out why my fogs weren't working. Sure enough - I had popped the fuse when getting them moved into the new bumper. Dropped in a new fuse and we're GTG.

While I was in there, I switched the voltage booster to the lower setting.

Are the mirrors weird to drive with now they are a bit smaller?

Installed the PT398-34142 Glass Break Sensor kit.

Not much to it really - the truck already has the security system with the hood jumper in place, so this was a matter of plugging in the "microphone" under the AC controls, then installing and plugging in the ECU unit under the dash next to the main ECU/fuse panel.

Then a quick jump into TechStream to turn it on... It took longer to go through the testing steps than it did to do the install.

Also dropped the voltage booster down to the lower setting this weekend. The truck was running at/around 14.5V and that just seemed excessive.

Getting bumper lights figured out… I think this is the final combo.
    • 30” S8 in the middle - center is clear driving/combo, outsides are amber driving/combo
    • XL Pro - amber driving/combo
    • Squadron SAE - amber (need to change to the square bezel still)
    • S2 Sport - clear driving/combo with amber rock guards - aimed out at an angle to match the bumper edges for ditch/cornering
Need to actually run the wiring and then dial in the aim.

They don’t have a dual control option on the S8 - all sections come on but I find the combination of light gives a good mix.

It has the backlight feature that I have triggered with ignition

After 4 years and 4 months…and just short of 94,000 miles, it was finally time to replace the Falken A/T3W’s. They were an amazing tire for me.

So naturally I went with Falken Wildpeak A/T4W in the same 295/70R18. Hoping for close to the same longevity on this set as the last set.

I worked with one of our local Les Schwab locations even though they don’t normally carry the tire - mostly because our company uses them for all of our fleet vehicles (~200 trucks and vans) so they take good care of employee’s personal needs as well.

    I know where you're going.
In this case, it was installing "customer supplied aftermarket parts" that they usually won't do...

Managed to talk the tire shop into installing the Coachbuilder OE Steering Kit while they had the truck up on the rack yesterday, and then do an alignment.

That did also mean that they needed to put the Bora 1" 5x150 wheel spacers on as well (to clear the heim joints on the CB outer tie rods).
