Alarm system removal

My tundra came with an alarm system and remote start installed when I first got it. Though it has been fine over the years it’s overly sensitive and I just want it gone. I traced all the wires coming from the brain and the only two sections I noticed they cut my factory harness was

a. Under the steering column. The thicker aftermarket purple and green wires are connected to my factory skinny green wires. Do I need to reconnect the two factory skinny green wires pictured?

b. Passenger side underneath dash same thing they cut the factory black wire and connected aftermarket two grey wires. I’m gonna assume I need to reconnect the factory black wires?

Every other connection from the aftermarket wiring was just T’d off and is easy removal.

Forgot to note you can also adjust the sensitivity level if that is your only complaint with it.

 

Thank you, I had a hard time finding a diagram. Not only is the sensitivity an issue but even if I press the lock button one too many times the alarm just starts going off. The alarm system kind of just freaks out on random things.

I brought up the two spots where the factory harness was cut because I wasn’t sure if I should reconnect the wires as I didn’t want to fry my harness. I know there is a lot smarter people on here that can chime in ha. The one downside to where they cut the green wire under the steering column is they didn’t leave my a lot of room to splice and reconnect them.

 

Feel free to wait for @RainMan_PNW or someone else to chime in as I'm no expert, but I would agree what you suggested appears to be correct if you plan to just remove the whole system. I figured I'd add the comment about adjusting the sensitivity thinking if that was the only complaint it might be a quick and easy fix, but it sounds like there are other quirks with the system as well.

Not sure if you wanted to go down that same path again, but I picked up the remote start from Tech12volts and the phone app module and it's been flawless for several years now.

Yeah that is an option I explored. To be honest I rarely use my remote start, only in the winter. I contacted a local shop and they wanted $180 to remove the system. So here we are now. I’ll wait till tomorrow to give it a shot and hopefully not fry anything.

 

It shouldn’t be that difficult to remove everything.. unhook the battery first and foremost..
Going wire by wire, unhook or cut.. reconnect the factory wire of the same color that they cut. Solder and heatshrink..
Take your time. One wire at a time.. you’ll have it out in no time..

 

Remove the aftermarket stuff. For the or harness that’s been cut, just splice in a piece of wire and solder and heat shrink. Don’t over think it. It’s simple.

Also, at my age a $180 to fix it and not contort myself to fix all the stuff is a small price to pay. I can do it but my back and shoulders will tell me about it the next day.

 

If I need to add wire because there factory wire is cut too short, do I just need the same gauge wire? For example in the picture the little green wire doesn’t have a lot of extra wire to reconnect.

 

Just looking at some wires that were cut or tapped doesn’t give me the warm fuzzy to really provide much input… though it looks fairly straightforward.

The right thing to do is trace back the wire in question both directions to determine the connector number and terminal (pin) number it is, and then search the EWDs to find that connector and terminal and confirm the wires are indeed the same wire that has been cut.

From there, use a good means of splicing and you’re all set.

 

Thanks to everyone that responded. I was able to take it all out and reconnect those two factory wires. The factory fob works again and now I won’t have that annoying viper alarm anymore. Lost remote start for now, but I did save $180 on having a shop do it.

 

Congrats. You could probably sell the remote start on here and even collect a few bucks in the process.

 

Probably will just give it away for free or dumpster.

Saved some $ and learned a little a long the way. Really sad they cut and crimp while there are T-harnesses out there for our truck. Minimize so much cutting of the factory wires. I hate cutting factory wires.
