So I'm new here, have a 2007 dc which I replaced with a low mileage 2020 dc about a month ago. Had a rental in the keys booked for two weeks. Planned to tow my 20' cc down for the trip. I'm in md, so it's a long trip down 95.

I panicked A little with all the tranni cooler talk. Borrowed a buddy's OBD and did some montioring on the trip.

I averaged 12mpgs and 65 mph. Trailer tows super nice and smooth. Over 70 and I just Get nervous. I did get there a few times passing folks.

I used the tow mode of course- I saw Many say to toe in s4. Tried that, mpgs wenr down, t temps were around 210. Tried regular drive, temps got over 230. S5 was pretty much the sweet spot it seemed. Ranging in temps between 215-220. Seemed reasonable. Truck just hit 50k so I'm gonna have the t drained and filled when I take it in.

I need to hook up my boat and OBD to my 2007 and compare temps!

on the fence if I will do the cooler or not.

If you're successfully/safely able to keep your temps down like that, IMO, I wouldn't spend the money on a cooler. But it's your money and your vehicle. Glad you had a successful towing trip!

I like many others added a trans cooler to their Tundra. Did I have to, probably not. But then I’ve spent plenty on things I may or may not have needed in life. If you monitor and stay disciplined while towing you’ll probably never have a problem. The temps you recorded are definitely some of the better temps I’ve heard of or seen while towing on this forum. Either way its a personal decision with plenty of opinions on both sides of this topic.
