Hello everyone. I have a question about the rear taillight on an '06 Tundra. I am missing one of the bolts that secures the taillight to the truck. I found that that little metal screw clip that goes on the taillight housing is missing so now the screw can't bite to secure the light. I searched for the part on Toyota parts website but found nothing, so I spoke with Toyota parts and was told Toyota doesn't sell that little metal u style nut and I would have to buy the entire light but that ain't happening. Home Depot sells the "U Speed Nut (see link below for photo). Does anyone know the size of that taillight bolt or where I could find that specific metal screw clip? I'd appreciate any help.

    Thanks...Al

Take another bolt to HD and use their guide to tell you the thread size.

It's gonna be a regular M6 bolt that fits it, but you'll have to find the right style of clip that fits the tail light side. Can you take the other one that you do have out and find something similar?

Thanks for the sizing. I had planned to do that if no one here knew where to get the exact clip for the light.

It looks like the bolt is used to hold a variety of Toyota taillights to the vehicle. Since the clip isn't available from Toyota individually, I'd take a trip to your local junkyard and check for a clip on any Toyota car/truck/suv taillight. I bet you find a matching bolt and clip for your Tundra. Plus, who doesn't like to spend a couple of hours wandering around a salvage yard???

I went to Harbor Freight and bought a various pack of U clips since they were cheap. The #10 is the best fit. I may go to the junk yard one day to see what little crap I can find and use since I've not been to one in many years.

That's what I did to get rid of my annoying ass yellow door lock stickers. It just so happen Toyota uses the same size stickers over the late 90s-late 00s vehicles, and I was able to carefully peel off a few from other vehicles, keeping the adhesive intact, stick them on a piece of celophane, then take them home and swap out my stickers. I posted a pic on here somewhere.

That's really hard to believe you can't get it from Toyota. The dealership I use has a bunch of generic parts like that, including O-rings and clips and such. I've been able to take the matching part for generic multi-use parts like this clip from the tail lamp and they have always been able to match it up

I mean think about how many clips like that are used in all of the various Toyotas over many years. I call bunk on it no longer being made

a Toyota dealership also told me I would have to have a new engine because the bolt hole from my timing belt tensioner pulley bracket was stripped. GMAFB

I agree with you Weagle. I was surprised about that but he didn't say they did not make it anymore, he said I had to buy the entire light with that little uclip...amazing.

Shifty, you lost me on that yellow sticker thingy. Have a photo?

I haven't been to a junk yard in some time. It's time to go just looking to see what I can find.

Man, I appreciate that. I will let you know. Believe it or not, I have not gotten around to it yet because I've been feeling pretty bad with this iron deficiency crap. It's been a struggle for me mentally to do any work, especially non essential stuff, but I had an iron infusion and man I am feeling a whole lot better.

Thanks. I am getting stronger again. I did an hour on my bike trainer the other day and noticed my energy is coming back after the iron infusion.

Btw, I can't golf so my pockets are fatter:p

Yeah, mine were there, just yellow as could be. I bought replacements just because of the stickers, and the inevitable "oh crap, what if it breaks, better buy these while Toyota is still doing color-matched parts!" (they've started releasing a lot of the plastic parts in beige-only)

Was at the junkyard on a whim, there was a 1st gen with a broken handle but a good sticker, so I pulled the sticker. While I was leaving, passing the Toyota section, I compared it to other Toyotas, sticker is the same size. You can buy replacements online for like $8 shipped or something, but I went ahead and grabbed a couple, stuck them to a piece of celophane I had in my pocket, and sure enough, they popped right on and have stayed put for quite a while. And now my interior looks new again.

I need to make a trip to the junk yard. I used to actually enjoy going there and browsing for things. I stopped having to go when I got my Sequoia, haha.

A quick google search showed me 2 PYP (Pick Your Part) yards in Baltimore and 2 outside of Baltimore. The reviews indicate they are self serve, which is typical for a PYP yard.

Who knew? I'll have to check it out. I'm in Annapolis, so it's not so inconvenient.

Unless they have changed (been awhile since I've visited), there's a domestic and import in Brandywine MD. I know they have gotten more sophisticated over the years and now look more like a regular part store, but they still had cars in the yard where you could pull stuff. Again, it's been some time since I've been there, so I am going off of old memory. The last time I was there I saw 4 guys pull a bed off a pickup truck. I am going to have to stop in soon to see how it looks now.
