I was looking at a YT video of the new 2026 M5 and to was talking about the steering wheel would know when you want curse control and I asked myself this question:
how intuitive do I want my vehicle to be?

At what point is it too much?

yes but per the video the car will sense it and turn it on for you. Dont get me wrong there are features that are handy I just dont want the vehicle to decide for me is all i am saying

Now I am wondering if the curse control prevents swearing like when you have little kids in the car or harnesses your inner witch/wizard powers to put curses on the left lane drivers.

These new cars are becoming very advanced.

I really like my FJ which has almost everything mechanical switches. No backup camera, no TSS, manual 4hi/low, manual gears, knobs for hvac and all steering controls. Minimal stability control, turns off automatically in 4hi. It just works the way I want it to.

Whereas seeing cars with automatics now which predict if you want to go forward or reverse etc is wild. Just this past week someone in a Tesla needed to make 3 point turn to turn around and was in a rush/panic and it appeared they couldn’t get the vehicle to move where/how they wanted in the heat of the moment (definitely not one with the machine in that moment).

The Gen2.5 Tundra cruise control default of using the front sensor and matching the cars speed is extremely annoying to have to manually override each time you turn it on. I am sure the BMW version likely does the same annoying behavior. Now if they could get the BMW to automatically use turn signals that would be worth a Nobel Peace Prize.

100% agree. Except the manual transmission - I love to row through the gears in a sporty sedan or two door that I blast around town in, but I still prefer an automatic for just about everything else. Not hating on manual transmissions one bit, but a slush box works better for me.

Vehicle design seems be headed this way...

that macbook is FAR more complex than a keyboard.
This is what I am talking about. This video is more than likely a joke but its seems like the trend these days, take what works and make it more complex.

I don't want my vehicle to drive me. I want to drive it. Kids these days want it handed to them in a platter. Seems like they're getting what they want.

haven't used cruise control in ages.

I use cruise control to help me not get tickets on long drives. I-10 / 95 is crawling with law enforcement as it should be.
I never see them ticket the slow driver in the left lane though. I digress

you make a good point though, its the direction of the generation at hand.
Uber eats , grub hub and door dash is all indicative of this generation. Even cashiers are less ( some cashiers not all ) skilled and depend solely on
the register to do the counting for them. Its no wonder why car manufacturers have started to follow suit.

All in the guise of safety... the distracted driver is a real world scenario. And the self driving cars are only going to gain more popularity. Then the question becomes how do cops issue tickets to self driving cars? Hello slippery slope the 21st century has arrived.

So is curse control interactive? Apply electrical shock through the seat and steering wheel?
I mean that might actually be a good thing for some road ragers.
As road rage intensity builds, electrical shock intensity increases to the point of total driver incapacitation. Nighty-night!
Driver gets a time-out, a nice little nap, vehicle continues on it's merry way. Full safety is assured. Win-win.

    Curse control? LOL

I went all the way to Atlanta, GA Monday. Went the long way to avoid the freaking INSANITY on I-85.

Since I do not have nor want GPS, I asked the front desk clerk how to get back to Rt. 20.

I was joking but said "I don't have enough ammunition to handle all the road ragers on I-85. I could probably do the first 75 but after that...."

I don't think gallows humor is her thing. Maintenance guy and the three good 'ol boys I met at the gas station/hardware store up in eastern TN got it.

*I'm not sure how much ammo I took along. 75 rounds of both calibers is probably a good estimate. Nearly stopped in a gun range I passed by on the way back but didn't bring a cleaning kit. You should always keep your carry weapons clean, just in case your truck looks a lot like the truck of the pissed off husband who had 15 minutes earlier mag dumped his wife's boyfriend. Ask me how I know that. LOL
