    Hi,

I recently bought non-running ‘02 Tundra with a TRD Super Charger. I am in the process of troubleshooting it. This is my first project and I plan to DIY to get it up and running running again.

It cranks but the truck does not start. I installed a new battery because the prior one died as the truck sat for about 8 months.

I scanned the truck for codes. I have one confirmed trouble code
P0100 - Mass or Volume Air Flow Sensor ‘A’ Circuit. Not sure if this is contributing to why the truck is not running but I cleaned the MAF sensor.

I removed a spark plug to check for spark. The spark plug had oil on the threads. I will need to address this leak. Hope it’s not too serious.

Good News: I was able to confirm spark

    Next, I checked for fuel.

The fuel pump relays and fuses are good.

I removed what I believe is called the Fuel Pressure Pulsation Damper so that I can check for fuel pressure. I was able to confirm fuel was getting to the fuel rail as I was able to get fuel come out through the fuel lines.

The fuel pressure test kit adaptors that I have does not fit as it interferes with the SuperCharger.

Bad News: Although, I was able to confirm that fuel was reaching the fuel rail, I was not able to confirm fuel pressure.

    Questions:
    1. How do you check the fuel pressure on the 4.7L engine equipped with a TRD Super Charger?

    2. I am having a hard time re-installing the Fuel Pressure Pulsation Damper as the Super Charger gets in the way. Even though I was able to get it off somehow. :duh:
Do you have any suggestions on how to re-install the damper? (Photos attached). Hope I don’t have to tear off the entire Super Charger just to re-install the damper. But will do it if that’s the proper way to re-install it or check for fuel pressure.

    3. Do you have any suggestions on what to check/troubleshoot next? I had plan to check & clean the fuel injectors after I have confirmed fuel pressure and re-install Fuel Pressure Pulsation

    Vehicle Specs:
    2002 Toyota Tundra Limited
    4x4
    190k miles
    TRD Super Charger
    TRD Headers
    TRD Exhaust

    Thank you!

    It's probably the fuel filter

    :D Got me

    Thanks for this.

Unfortunately in my case, the TRD supercharger gets in the way when I try to re-install the damper.
Wondering if there is another way I can re-install it without removing the supercharger.

Unfortunately the FSE has no info about that.

That supercharger will always be in the way. Just remove it and return the truck to stock. Much easier to work on.

You can send the supercharger to me, I’ll help you dispose of it…

Try starting it with the MAF unplugged and see if it will stumble to life. Check your EFI fuses. If you decide to buy a new MAF make sure it is Hitachi brand.

Next step should be a compression test on each cylinder.

It’s gonna be tough on a modified vehicle to diagnose over the internet. You need to check to see if the computer mod for the Supercharger is present. I believe it was URD? Or something like that. Is this a ninth injector setup? Are all the harnesses intact and plugged in? What’s the history on it not running? Compression test on all cylinders? What’s the condition and age of the timing belt? You really need to start at square one with this one. Sort all the variables you can before trying to “troubleshoot” it.

You have one code P0100, work with that. A bad MAF can cause a no start condiiton. Like NickB_01TRD said try starting the truck with the MAF sensor unplugged. If it starts then try cleaning the old MAF sensor and try it or get a new MAF (Hitachi brand).

Thanks. I’ll try that out once I get the damper back on. If I try to crank the truck, fuel sprays out because the damper is not on. EFI fuses looked good.

Right on. I’ll order a compression test kit.

Thanks for the feedback. Sure, I understand it’s difficult to diagnose over the internet.

I’ll do more research on the Computer Mod.

I’m not sure if this is a 9th injector setup. I’ll do more research on that as well. Here’s a photo of the SuperCharger for reference. All harnesses appeared intact and plugged in.

Previous Owner told me that she was driving the truck and all of a sudden she truck died. The PO went to three different shops to diagnose the issue. All three claimed it was a computer issue. She decided to move forward with the computer repair and claims she spent $2K+ on Computer work by a shop (however, I was not given a receipt of the work done).. The truck drove fine for a bit after that and then the truck died again. Then the truck sat for 8 months until I purchased it.

I have not done a compression test yet. But I’ll order a kit.

I have not yet checked the timing belt. When I looked up the vin # on the Toyota Website, it shows the last time the timing belt was replaced was around 90K miles. Not sure if it was changed out any time after that. I’ll check the timing belt out as well.

Thanks. I’ll check out the crank position wires as well.

Not yet. But will check it out.

I would honestly look at the timing belt before doing any more cranking, just in case it's nearly broken since you don't know the age.

The diagram appears that the fuel pressure regulator is sitting INSIDE a banjo fitting on the end of a line.
Your best bet is to take a small screwdriver and pry upwards on the line and get the line OFF the fuel rail.
Then put the fuel pressure regulator in the banjo fitting
Then push the fuel pressure regulator in the banjo fitting over onto the fuel rail at the same time as an assembly.
This will / should lower the overall height of the assembly and allow it to clear the soopercharger.

Dirt Deeds injectors, Addco rear sway, AEM dry flow air filter, last ever set of Stan's Try-Y headers, Borla full custom exhaust, front level, wheel spacers, and lots of electronics.
There have been some posts about the TRD ECU having issues. After you've done the previous mentioned troubleshooting steps: chrck timing belt, unplug MAF, crank sensor wiring, compression test, etc. If those don't work, you can send your ECM to Quantum Auto and get a supercharger reflash. Or get them to send you a new ECM with the supercharger tune and give them your old ECM as a core.

For sure. I will check the timing belt this week.

Thanks for the insight and diagram. Unfortunately, the damper is too tall and it does not clear the super charger even when pre-assembled in the banjo fitting.

Thanks for the suggestion here. I’ll keep this in mind.
