I'm wondering if anyone has replaced their rusted out towing bumper mount with mounting brackets for the bumper and a regular hitch? I've look around quite a bit and haven't found any solid info on what works and what does not. My bumper is still in good shape, but the mount is pretty shot. Certainly not safe for towing anything. For an '06 DC. Thanks.

If the tow hitch is rusted out, what does the mount to the frame look like? Show us some pictures.

Man, the damn tow hitch assembly in these trucks from the factory was garbage. Even mine is rusting. Toyota really could've done a much better job with it.

Sorry, I should have specified, I was talking about the mount to the frame. It's rusted to where it's pretty worthless holding the bumper if I were to get hit, even lightly. More than half of the meat of the mount is gone. I'm in the salt/rust belt. I can't take any pics for a while, I fractured my hip last week. I've been hunting LKQ and Co-Part but haven't come across anything good yet. Anything local at a yard is going to be just as bad, maybe worse. I thought maybe it could be a work around if I found a bumper mount and bought a regular hitch.

Best bet will honestly be finding a parts truck on FB or similar.

I know you are super knowledgeable. Am I missing something here and being a total idiot? I was double checking to make sure I had the right part number as I'm searching online for a good used one. On the Toyota OEM Parts Online site they listed it as 52023-0C041 and then at the bottom of the page under "Vehicle Fitment" it listed the below info. Did they actually bring this old part back again for '18-'21? I've never seen anything like that if they did. It sure would make it easier to find one a nice used one that's not 1/2 destroyed with rust if it fits the same. Thanks.

    Ooof. Possibly?

I don't trust the Toyota Parts Online system. I've seen it spit out some really weird shit.

I've got the "racing" bumper mod too...... dramatically lightened by rust. I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to exactly, but here is a bumper that includes the brackets for mounting. This adds about $30 to the total price. I've seen it for as low as $115 over the past 6 months. Here's one link, but there are many other sellers.

Thanks' Shifty. That's definitely weird if they brought a part back from the dead so many years later. I've never seen any manufacturer do that before.

Thanks, I'll check that out too. My bracket is VERY light now. If someone bumped into me at 2 mph in a parking lot the bumper would probably break off. Did you just buy a regular hitch for the "non towing bumper" to go with your new bumper?

I have a non-towing bumper. I have the U-haul class IV 2” receiver hitch that bolts to the underside of the frame with 8 bolts. Served me well.

I haven't actually pulled the trigger on a new bumper yet. I decided to let this winter go by before doing a replacement. Besides the benefit of a new bumper actually functioning if bumped, I will also get the added benefit of further dechroming the truck. My hitch looks exactly like the one the bumper photo above but not sure what type it is
