That's why I didn't pick it up. Ironically I am waiting for pizza at a place right next door... Still going to hold off even at that price.

You got that right. My wife and I are here in the Phoenix area as Snowbirds for 4 months (only one month left :(). What is even better is if you come across a Total Wine & More store. Go into one of those and you will be amazed at what there is in there.

We are pretty spoiled here. Most grocery stores have a wide range of beer, wine and liquor at good prices. Also, as mentioned, Total Wine is awesome.

We have that too up here in Ohio. About half of the grocery stores can carry liquor, just depends on their specific liquor license they have. Makes it really nice and convenient to not have to go to a specific liquor store. Also dangerous because every time I run into a grocery store, I find myself searching the whiskey shelves.

I'm in Salt Lake City (basically), but when I worked the field Phoenix was my territory. We had a site in Surprise where I spent a ton of time and I found a lot of gems at the Total Wine there. There are some benefits to living in Utah and our DABS system, but I found a lot of great bottles at Total Wines across the country.

The Penelope is a decent bottle for $36, easy sipper mild finish. The FR has a longer finish more complex, $49.

I've always seen the FR on the shelf but never thought to give it a try because the basic cheap FR isnt that good. IMO.

For sure, the 20 dollar bottle is terrible. The best everyday bottle they sell is the Small Batch Select, it's about $60 but I would take that over any single barrel or regular small batch they sell. As it was explained to me, they take single barrels that don't make the cut, maybe 5 or 6 and combine them to make this version.

Blanton's Gold $100 in Stockholm. They claim this release did not come with a box or bag.

In a 6 pack case, 3 of the bottles have a box and a bag. The other 3 do not and are packed in a black netting.

All blantons cases come packed like this. I assume the netting was removed by the store.

Every case of blantons I've ordered has been packed like this. I order for an on premise location. Not sure if this matters. We received 48 cases last year. This includes the few cases of gold that we got.

Been wanting to try Sazerac for a while. Really lucky to pick up the Stagg, a high proof that usually doesn't drink like one.

Example of how blantons comes to us. I'll try and get a pic of the gold later as well.

Nabbed a Stagg 24D at MSRP for a buddy of mine in NC 2 weeks ago. Procured another buddy an Old Forester single barrel, barrel proof, store pick just last week.

Me, I'm personally on a Makers train right now, BEP and Lost Stave Mocha.

Does anyone use OnlyDrams to keep track of their collection?

I personally find it useful for several reasons, and definitely gave me a reality check going into 2025 on getting my spending there in check lol.

@00h2itr Never even heard of it, just downloaded it. Thanks. I use this cool app for my cigars called Cigar Scanner where i can tell a lot about the cigar and its origin, so thanks for putting me on this one for my Whiskey obsession.. ;)

    Forgot to post
This was a gift from the wife for my Birthday. Oban Distillers Edition. This is going up in my top 3 favorite Scotches. The smoothness of this scotch was something else, also the peat was not as strong or noticeable as its counterpart Lagavulin.

I like that you can take notes, favorite your bottles, etc. Really helps with blind tastings, especially if your local friend group all have the app, your next get together you can brown bag the bottles, have a 3rd party (my wife helps here) pour 1oz samples into glens, and then you blind/semi blind them and see what you really like and help narrow down your personal preferences, which may or may not be wildly different than other participants.
