Is anyone else particular with the brand of fuel they fill up with? I keep track of my fuel costs and have used only Exxon from day 1.

Only thing I avoid is if the tanker is at the station. From what I understand it stirs up all kinda crap when they fill the underground tanks. Other than that I just go where it's cheap.

Never gave that a thought, makes sense though. I would imagine filters are in place but you never know the condition of the system overall.

I've owned a lot of cars in my life (25+) and 80% of the gas I have bought of more high performance use is Chevron (like in the S2000's Ive owned which at 9K RPM's you don't want to mess with) and 20% Cosco. I always buy super at 93 octane and have never once had an issue in 25+ years. Its always more expensive but there is no doubt... ever... of its quality. My Tundra always gets the 93 octane, its a high output twin turbo V6 and while it can take lower octane, I still prefer it not being retarded by the fuel. But, Im also a led foot (usually in sport mode), at 10K miles I'm still sitting at 16mpg.

I deliver fuel for a bigger chain gas station and can tell you that at least for our stores there are filters between the tanks and the pumps. I’m reasonably certain most stations are the same. But I’ve heard this, mostly from older gentleman, a few times while dropping fuel. Just my 2 cents, to each your own.

I only use top tier gas. Mainly Chevron. I just fill it up with 87. 1 because it’s California and 2, that’s what the horsepower and torque numbers are produced on and what the engine is tuned for from the factory. I might try 91 if and when I tow.

uh... no. Modern engines for the past several decades adjust to octane, there is no "factory tune" for one specific octane gas. The computer simply determines the quality of fuel and will retard the engine if you are running. Any high performance engine (and a V6 with 400hp is a high performance engine) is going retard its best performance at 87 octane.

"While using 93 octane fuel in a 2022+ Toyota Tundra won't guarantee a significant horsepower increase, it can help prevent engine knocking and potentially allow the engine to run more efficiently, which could lead to a slight performance improvement."

V6 twin turbo, I prefer to limit the knocking potential. I wouldn't be so concerned with the old 5.7 liter V8 normally aspirated.

Knocking and high PSI turbos (and hell, even throw in some pull from the hybrid motor) = plop

I fill up wherever I can find non-ethanol, usually.

If I'm traveling and need fuel in an area where non-ethanol isn't available, I look for a newer high traffic station. My theory is their tanks will usually be cleaner and the fuel will be newer.

I try to avoid small 2-4 pump stations in remote areas. No telling what shape their tanks are in, or how old the fuel is.

Uh… no to you! If that was the case and it was unsafe to run 87, then Toyota would specify it. Horsepower and torque numbers were posted by Toyota on 87 octane. Yes it is factory tuned to run on 87 that is what several Toyota engineers in numerous videos have said. Do some research my dude!

Ive run which i would think 87 since I got the Tundra last May. It's the gas the company has delivered for us to use. I do run 93 once a month since installing the Stillen a few months ago. No issues yet.
Guy at work fills his TRX with the company provided 87 gas. No issues

Depending on the region you live in determines what refinery actually makes the gas sold at any specific gas station. For instance, Marathon is the only refinery in my area. So, every tanker truck that leaves the Marathon refinery rack, supplies gas & diesel to all brand gas stations in the area. They also ship gasoline via Marathon, BP & Buckeye pipelines. So just because you are loyal to a specific station, that's all it is. A middleman selling you another companies fuel.

87 from Wawa or QuickChek. It lowest the owner manual reccomends to prevent engine damage.

Its not the octane killing the V6TT, its the debris they delivered it with.

“Tuned / Designed / Programmed” whatever you want to call it. The engineers made it to run on 87 octane and achieve the posted horsepower and torque on 87.

    Yeah negative…
    That was 87 in a controlled environment….
That’s far from what you are getting in real life conditions

"I use fuel from a mysterious gas can labeled '1938' that was in my house when I bought it."

"I go to Costco, Safeway, or the local convenient /inexpensive station"

That should cover all the possible responses.

back in the day when I was in high school I was a “petroleum transfer engineer” lol for a bigger chain. The pumps all had filters.

today (at least where I am) the filters are inline with the hose. Not sure if there’s still the big old oil filter lookin one inside the newer fancy electronic pumps.

Only Exxon or Mobil for the last 26 yrs. They paid a lot of our bills when my wife worked there. She still has stock and pension with ExxonMobil so in one pocket and out the other. I was just a lowly firefighter so without her I would have bought the cheapest gas I could find.

OK, so some of you may give me shit. I work for Chevron BUT

The best fuel formula in the industry is Chevron's due to the Techron additive. A German mechanic told me to stick with the same fuel brand, preferable Chevron one. When they rebuilt my Honda Pilot engine at 135K miles due to the notorious VCM issues, the tech said he never seen such a clean engine, internally. I used Chevron fuel since day one on all my cars and never used anything else. Just sayin'

You find out all gas comes from same refinery or pipeline when a natural disaster shuts it down and every gas retailer in town is out of juice

The lil bodega I go to has Sunoco and is usually a few cents cheaper than everything around it. About 7 miles from my place
