Was doing a drain and fill on the transmission and slightly stripped the drain plug.. I think I can get it back off to replace. Does anyone know if there is a Lexus bolt part similar to the front diff that I can use to replace the hex?

also, I could’nt seem to get the leveling straw out, maybe I’m using the wrong size hex?

Drill and Tap for new bolt imo, or you'll be worrying about leaking for the rest of its life.

A new pan with gasket is 159.00.

I believe Banks has an aftermarket one as well.

Sounds like he may have stripped the hex, not the actual threads going into the pan.

Yes this is correct, stripped the hex.
Wondering if there is a bolt I can replace it with so I don’t strip it again

Take that one out with vise grips and head down to your nearest ACE or True Value Harware store. They have drawers full of all sorts of bolts. They have a thread tester so you can get the correct size/pitch. Use a torque wrench putting it back in. Only about 20 ft lbs. with a new crush washer.

30ft lbs with new washer according to the fsm.

I'm questioning if the OP was using the correct size hex where the plug stripped and he can't get the filler tube out.

Correct hex is 6mm for both.

Just have to use a quality hex socket and keep it straight. Also make sure you are in all the way. Hex heads can last forever, just have to be cautious with them and of course torque to spec with a new crush washer.

In other words I vote new oem bolt, keep the hex.

    Always correct hex bit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MDLCLML
Always correct torx bit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000YOVIIU I use it for damaged hex holes as well, that are not longer accept a standard hex bit. Torx+ is slightly larger, security torx is slightly smaller, which gives some variety to pick from.

Most of Toyota bolts are subpar. Mild steel, strip easily.

I have lexivon torque wrenches. I have been happy with them. I just got some flip sockets for lug nuts

Are the hex tools good quality?

Okay. OTC torx bits are better (harder). Still, Lexivon is more sturdy than most of HF, HD or Lowes bits.

Thanks for the advice! I’m was using this set from HF:
Might ask the dealership to replace the hex and check the fluid level, since I’m not sure I checked at the right temp

If you weren't 100% sure of the fluid temp, then definitely have the dealer or a reputable shop check your fluid level. If it's still under warranty you might want to consider not going to the dealer. They will document that you did a drain and fill yourself and screwed up the head of the bolt.

So far it’s been running fine, changed it yesterday. I assume I would notice if something’s wrong by now? Driven about 60-80 miles

How do you know it's only that amount? And why would Toyota and all manufacturers specify a temperature range if it "won't even notice."

You are right, it can tolerate much more. I actually tested that, on another, older transmission made by Aisin :) Full fill, including torque converter, is 8.2 (IIRC) qt. It started noticing something with 1.5 qt less in sump, and the first signs of foaming with more than 1 qt overfilled. Nothing too bad, just first signs.

    Because that's the zero point.

One thing I noticed when I did my drain and fill recently....the hex bit went into the drain bolt but not all the way...I wiggled it a bit and it went in a bit deeper. If OPs hex didn't fit the straw, I'd guess that the bit is not that well made and off in shape or size a bit. Would explain why it stripped the bolt and wouldn't fit in the straw.

Maybe my hex bit was too short? Does it need to be longer to reach the straw?

Asked the dealership if they could check the fluid level for me but would be $250..
Going to check it myself this weekend, any suggestions on how to get it to the right temp to check? Should I drive it then let it cool down or let it warm up then check? Also should I pin open the thermostat?

Need a scanner that can read transmission temps. Then look up the proper range spec from Toyota.

This guy's torque specs are wrong. His are 2nd gen torque specs.

30 ft lbs for both drain and fill.

I dropped mine off the night before for my dealer appt for transmission fluid change. Start from a cold transmission otherwise I don't think you'll get to proper fluid temp
