OP you’ve come to the right place. If there’s one thing everyone agrees on in this forum it’s what weight oil to use and what type of oil to use. I suspect you’ll have a definitive answer in no time

Best? Subjectively I’ll agree with Amsoil. $$$

Preferred, 5w-30 Pennzoil ultra platinum. 5k OCI.

Custom bug spat pattern hood, grill & bumper. Dead Live Oak leaf collection under hood, cowl and lower fenders. Beach sand custom floor covering.
20w50. Change it once and drive the Wifes car everywhere. Don't even start the Tundra after the oil change. That causes excess wear. Your engine will last forever.

I was using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum but it's got pretty expensive. I do 5k OCI so I'm going to be switching to Kirkland.

In AZ I would use 10w30 if not 5w40.

Amsoil changed formula around 2012, it's not what it used to be. Only 10w30 is still the old formula, I think?

I recommend using a degreaser every other oil change. Helps keep the engine clean on the inside.

Can the engine tell the difference between the best oil and midrange oil if both are changed every 5k miles?

I prefer Simple Green. It comes in 2 gallon jugs and two jugs puts you squarely in the operating range on the dipstick. For even better cleaning, reverse the battery terminals and run the engine backwards. Caution: Do this life hack only on the spring or fall equinox lest upon returning your battery terminals to the correct position after the degreaser flush you have a 50/50 chance of your truck waking up thinking it's in the Southern hemisphere and Google maps verbal prompts are in an Australian accent. Cool for a while but it does get old.

    None....
Amsoil SS if money is no issue
Mobil one if you want to save money
    Kirkland oil if your cheap

And from what I have seen and read 0w20 seems to be what was put in the million mile tundras, so is thicker really better...

I am deeply saddened by this semi-serious, half-hearted (and other hyphenated descriptions) recommendation.
I fully expected to see a variation of Spraynard's tribologist approved formulation of -20W60 whale sperm oil humanely harvested from ethically sourced humpbacks.

You're slipping man. You feeling alright?

There is a Pennzoil rebate at the moment for PP and PUP which makes it at or below the Kirksoil price when it's on sale (at least for me at Walmart). Just note the valid vendors (Walmart in-store OK, WM.com no bueno).

Based on the reviews I've seen/read, Valvoline Restore and Protect seems to be the new king on the block.
