Absolutely,1000%. But we can’t afford it. Same car in a Camry if you could find the elusive v6 would be 15-17k where we live. Not to mention silver is the only color.

Long commutes at highway speeds I wouldn't worry about the cvt so much. I'm in the camp of "a deal isn't a deal until the deal is done" so you're definitely not committed until money changes hands.

Run away from anything with a CVT.

Drove a 23 and 24 Rogue loaner. Not bad for what it is. Wouldn't want one. Hit my head each time getting into them. :frusty::frusty:

Spoke to a mechanic I know he told me run. Something I didn’t know are the timing oil leaks VQ’s have with leaking paper gaskets in the valley. Being transverse this is an engine out repair. Not a matter of if but when.

Spouse said this makes me and her look bad ,more me very flakey to back out after committing to buy. My argument is even if we used it for a year, took the hit “ we can’t afford to” and sold it. They would likely be upset we did that rather than keep it.

I put on my big boy paints and made the choice to pass. In the coming days, week, we will see how things play out with the friendship, hopefully it passes like the wind at night.

Used to have a Pathfinder. The Transmission was the first thing to go. The body and engine were rock solid.

Very fun to drive. But the CVT was bad.

I’ve read a lot about that car but had zero reference or idea about oil leaks from paper gaskets. Learn something new everyday.

Certain VQ's. Overall historically, VQ's have a great history. The VR's used in GT-R's are Demon killers. Easy. My VQ38 has some VR internals. VQ's are SOLID. At 47,008 miles, my VQ has zero oil leaks. There are so many VQ variations over the years. I have serious doubts about your mechanic claims. Especially generalizing about VQ's. Actual empirical data reigns supreme. Not anecdotal hearsay. Just sayin.

Mine was a little different. When I would get to around 40-43 MPH, the vehicle would shutter as it would drive. I would have to speed up or slow down, break that shutter, then speed back up. The mechanic said that was a transmission going out.

But, outside of that, the SUV was amazing. Good ground clearance, power for the engine it had, I could fit 7 in mine. Nice roof rack to carry some extra stuff and the 4x4 was great.

One time I was driving in really bad snow and bottomed it out. Had to dig that out in a blizzard but that SUV was fun.
