    Family friend has a used;

‘13 Nissan Maxima available for us to purchase.
It has 75,600 miles and almost every option except the sport package.
It’s black on black single owner garage kept southern car.
Zero accidents but needs: hood struts, driver seat bolster repair, console arm rest cover, reverse camera-broken wire, and driver exterior door handle - could be glued back on,chrome cover is not 100% secured.
The car was always serviced at the dealership. It runs and drives fine.

I’m a Toyota nut and stick to what’s treated me well. In the past I’ve owned two Nissan products, my largest issues with this is the CVT.

    What’s your opinion?

Seems to me there are quite a few things that are broken for a car with this mileage. it's a CVT transmission and I do know Nissan has a terrible reputation for the early CVTs.

If your friend wasn’t selling the car, would you go and search for one?

I wouldn’t buy a Nissan product. I wouldn’t buy a CVT. 2 strikes. How much is this “deal” anyway? $1000? Go for it. $15k. No freakin way.

The price set for us is 8k. Foolishly semi agreed yesterday. The more I think it over the less likely I’ll move forward.

Would I ever buy, search out another Nissan vehicle? No. I’ve had both VQ40 frontier and VQ35 Infiniti. Neither impressed me in the slightest.

The hardest part now would be telling them we won’t move forward with the deal. I absolutely hate involving close friends and money.

If they are close friends, you coming to them and saying, “after we discussed this more at home, we’ve decided not to move forward with the deal we discussed.” Should not create any hard feelings. I do not expect my friends to buy anything from me. Honestly, I’d be terrified to sell something to a good friend, and then it break and have them think I sold them a pile of steaming poo.

Over 46k miles on my VQ 38 22 Frontier. No serious issues unlike what the new gen Tundra has had. Just sayin. Don't know much about the Maxima, but the issues listed seem minor and easily corrected. $8k? Reasonable in today's market. The Maxima was fairly popular.

    This ^^^

We just traded in our '23 Rav4 for 34k rather than sell it to our friends who offered to buy it for 40k, because it had this atrocious wind noise problem at any speeds above 55mph. I'd hate for them to deal with that

I would buy a new frontier. I wouldn’t buy a Nissan anything car. Especially with a CVT.

Yes they are minor, my largest concern is the cvt time bomb.
Both aren’t in need of the money and are selling it to us as I drive a tremendous amount. I need something reliable for long highway commutes. They see it as a “car”. We are enthusiast here so I figured this is the best place to ask.
Going to trust my gut and y’all , have to pass.

You just have to be dang near religious about changing the CVT fluid every 30,000 miles. If your friend has done that I would still be 50/50 based on everything else. If he hasn’t done that… hard pass.

I have a rogue with 56,000 and the fluid change at 30,000 was sadly something I could feel when driving it. It’s one of my kids first cars and was purchased because it was cheaper than similar Toyota models and we know how kids can be in a high school parking lot. May as well buy a bumper car…

I haven't heard anything good at all about the CVT. I personally wouldn't want a CVT ride.

Adding complexity to the mix. Spouse seems to think the bridge will be burned if I turn them down now after to committing yesterday. “ why didn’t you research this prior to not waste their time?” . Not wrong but also not a bridge I can burn.

Probably doing your friendship a favor with them. Good call not moving forward.

Also, if that burns your friendship it’s rocky at best anyways. It’ll be fine, don’t make poor financial choices based on feelings.

Nissan has been in cost saving mode for years. Their saving grace has always been great motor design.

I drove around a Nissan Altima while my truck was in the shop for a minor body repair, that thing was so rickety and you could feel the poor quality in it. I absolutely couldn’t wait to get back to my truck. It wasn’t a pleasant experience to drive.

I used to love the Maxima. It was a great flagship sedan for Nissan. The CVT ruined it.
