Love my RCLB….. I’m seriously thinking about losing my tool box. For me it doesn’t serve a purpose (doesn’t lock and I wouldn’t leave anything of value if it did). I think having wide open bed space will serve me better in the long run.

 

Oh no you di-int.....lol. Quick backstory. I priced a new ARE on Thursday 2 weeks ago. $4300 and change for a CX with headliner, roof tracks, and slider windoors. Dealer and I argue about bed length (AC vs DC). I told him I'd be pissed if it comes in and it hangs over the end by an inch. I finally give in and go outside to get my paint code. I walk back in and he says "they don't make windoors for your truck cap". Rather than argue more, I took it as a sign from the universe and said thanks...have a nice day. The next morning, I open FB while sipping coffee and find an ARE CX with headliner, sliding windoors, double rear T handles, roof tracks, front tilting slider, LED lights and my paint code. A shop up north had ordered it for someone over 2 years ago and dude never grabbed it. I did the 8 hour road trip. Grabbed the cap and stopped by Archive to chat with Eric and pick up my spring pack.

 

Super easy. Shoot me a PM and I can give you details. It's easier if you run an AGM aux battery, which I initially had. I switched to a Lithium and had to add a charger.

Nice! And also super weird, it looks like it's hanging ½" over at front and back. Maybe it's just an ARE thing, or maybe it's purely fitment.

I'm just jealous of the windoors.

 

Had to make sure my OCD wasn't gonna flare up. DC caps are harder to find than AC caps and I definitely didn't want it hanging over the ass end. The second pic is a DC with the AC cap...you can definitely tell it there. 74.3 vs 74.7.

I think it looks great. I'm rocking a DC cap on my AC. It's not as waterproof as I'd like but a lot of that is because it's old AF. It leaks from the winders despite my efforts to stop it.

 

my ARE is a bit long, but i’ve got an extra seal piece at the cab end to compensate for the plastic liner. The back window wont close if i scoot it too far forward. And i’m not a yankee, but i’d also be worried about it rubbing the cab.


i’ve also got a lithium ‘house’ battery, but i bought the cheapest battery & 2kw sinewave inverter i could find. Counting the actionmax box, that happens to be the same height as the toolbox, about $300 on black friday. And, if i keep everything on the passenger side, i can offset my fuel tank lean without shock preload offset.
The kepworth 100ah aint 100ah, but it’ll run the fridge longer than a usual weekend. It’s not tied to the trucks charging, so i need to top off at a 2 prong plug every now & then, or i’ve run jumper cables to it to keep it cool the last day. I can also boombox it on my shoulder & take it anywhere i need to go, leave it in a tent, or strap it to the atv & run an electric chainsaw or whatever. the battery must be smart enough to not take all 1kA or w/e, and the fridge has its own inverter, so i save power by running it on 12v instead of through the inverter. That inverter is great up to 1800w it pitches a fit trying to run much more. I’ve seen 2100w, but i had to load it slow. Dunno how to measure ah, and 4 days of a fridge is great, but charging phones and running blenders uses that last day quick.


the big one will recharge it, the small one is what i’m hoping to fit as a proper ‘house’ battery tied to the truck, but mounted in the bedside (but with gm side terminals).

 

Okay I was looking at my girlfriends dads Camry, the vc gaskets are leaking but I don’t see any bolts I was wondering what’s holding it on

 

Welded some tabs and wired up some lights. Just need to finish up some tube work and get the winch installed and the front bumper will be complete

 

There are 4 30mm bolts under the coil packs. Once you pull those off you'll see them.

I welded and bolted in some extra cross tube braces to my hammer hangers. Took it for a test drive and felt so stable back there now. Cant wait to go try it out in the dirt!

 

I’ve been tempted to do the cross bar but didn’t think I’d see much of a difference

 

I barely drove it yesterday after doing the cross bar, but initial feel wasnt much different from just the hammer hangers. I will say, the new hangers made a big difference compared to stock though. But I could also see just adding a cross bar to the stock hangers making a big difference too.

But I love a project, had some metal lying around and was a fun weekend putting it together.

 

I finally pulled my front coilovers off again to adjust the height. I was had about 2 inches of lift and was hitting the inner fender on some big bumps. I added a little more preload and came out to 3.25 inches with 1/4 tank of gas on driver side and 23 inches on passenger side. Gave me 1 - 1.5 inches of rake overall. I'm glad to finally have that done, but I think I would prefer to have 700# springs so I don't have to add so much preload.

 

Im in the same boat, wondering what kind of lift id get with #700 springs and no added preload. So many variables and options, at least its good enough for now!

 

Looks almost identical to my stange. Truck looks great!

 

I'm finding that the shocks feel a little harsh with that much preload. I'm going to give it a little time to see if it smooths out. I think I'm definitely going to 700# springs when it's time for a rebuild.
The ADS I had on my 2003 AC came with 700# springs. According to my post on that truck I was sitting at 3.5" of lift with only about 1/2" of preload on those. They came preadjusted.

 

Installed some tie down anchors and got a fancy net.

 

Instead of preload, i’m thinking about strut spacers on top of the 6112’s but i’m about to add over 100lbs to the bottom front of my truck, i might want a notch worth of preload once loaded down.

 

Have y'all reviewed tinkerers videos? There may be some gold for you here regarding spring rate and perceived harshness.
