    A 1% increase in mpg means nothing to end users, but it could be material for Toyota.

    I used to run 20-50 in my 5.8 F150 in the 90's. I don't know what the manual called for. Probably like 10-40 or something.

    I use supertech 0w 20. I don't run my shit hard enough for 5w 30.

    I guess mine’s a fake engine with 56 more horsepower, 182 lbft more torque lower in the rpm band (which is more for truck duty), 1300 pounds of more towing capacity, and a smoother quieter ride. But go ahead and justify that I gOt mUh V8 and keep telling yourself it’s better than the new platform. I can tell you from previously owning a 2020, it’s not!

    Oil Specifications for Australia
    The oil requirements for the V35A-FTS in Australia are consistent with global standards, but local availability and climate considerations are key factors:
    Recommended Oil Type: Toyota specifies full synthetic SAE 0W-20 oil meeting API SN (or higher, such as SP) and ILSAC GF-5 (or GF-6) standards. This viscosity is optimal for the engine’s design, providing excellent cold-start performance, fuel efficiency, and turbo cooling, even in Australia’s hot climate. In Australia, oils may also carry ACEA certifications (e.g., A5/B5 or A3/B4), which are common in the region due to European influence

    Modern turbo V6s often outperform V8s in key metrics. For example, the V35A-FTS in the Lexus LS 500 delivers 416 hp, compared to the older 4.6L V8 (1UR-FE) in the LS 460, which produced 386 hp, with better fuel economy and lower emissions. Similarly, in the Tundra, the V35A-FTS surpasses the 5.7L V8 in both power and towing capacity, especially in hybrid form.

    It (mine) makes way better noise, that's for sure, haha.

    In all honesty, I'm sure the 3.4 performs pretty well. But, personally, I don't care a whole bunch about that. I prefer proven, reliable, simple(r) stuff. Not to say the 3.4 can't be reliable. But, it hasn't been around all that long, and things are definitely off to a rocky start. And more moving parts means more potential problems.

    Would I buy a 3.4 in the future? Maybe. But I have no need. I have 35k miles on my current truck and don't care much for spending money on new vehicles until they need to be or it makes more sense to replace.

    I’ve decided on one of the three. Still narrowing down.
    All Pennzoil ultra platinum
    0w-40
    0w-30
    5w-30

    my main issue is heat resistance. It gets hot in Alabama. I ran a 5w-50 in my 2012 GTI (440whp) to combat the internal temps made by that turbo and engine combo.
    It doesn’t get that cold here to warrant a 0w so I’m vacillating back and forth between base oils.

    Take and oil sample at your next oil change and send it to Blackstone labs or any lab your want. Add some heavier oil and then send that to Blackstone Labs.
    See if the values change. That you help you answer your own question.

    About a month ago we switched to 5W30 in my ‘21 and my wife’s LX570 after some coolant valley and cam tower research on here and MUD.
    While warm and under heavy load, her truck would baaaaarely make a faint fan/ticking sound until shifting. That noise disappeared after switching to 5W30.
    I think thicker oil is a must in these vehicles if you live in warmer climates.

    So after spending a day watching Lake Speed videos, some new some rewatching. I think I’m more confused lol. Is there a place where I can find a detailed spec of all the oils and what additives they have so I can choose the one I feel is right? I live in a hot area and RARELY see the temp below 30 degrees Fahrenheit but see highs in 110’s of not occasionally 120

    Yours also blows up needing complete long block replacements and will never reach high miles without needing a complete turbo rebuild

    The color commentary from 1st/2nd gen owners about how their engines are better is extremely helpful. I'll be dumping my brand new 25 for an older model at the first opportunity.

    I owned a 5.7. It's a great engine. It never gave me solid oil advice for a 3.4, however.

    We’ll see about that! There’s already people with 200k miles on the new powertrain. I have a 10 year 125k warranty so I’m really not worried one bit. People like you love to blow things out of proportion and are so easily influenced by social media. You love to be mockingbirds and talk crap to try and build yourself up. Common theme here. At the end of the day, this engine is more capable, has more power, and is more suited for truck duty than the 5.7 that I had. In fact, it was a dog compared to this new powertrain.

    I’m just going to stick to the recommended 0W-20 and change it every 5k miles. There’s already tundras with 100k+ miles and have even done 10k oil intervals.

    bro chill out homie I was just yanking chains dude I’ve owned a shit ton of Toyotas my entire life and other makes as well and let me tell you something at the end of the day there is no such thing as a perfect car or truck there never will be. I’ve owned 1st 2nd 3rd gen Tacoma 3rd 5th gen 4Runner 1st 2nd gen tundras they all have issues and flaws the closet thing to a perfect car I have driven was my ex gf 2004 crolloa that was literally salvaged twice I had to take it for an inspection after someone side swiped her for a second salvage certification from the Ca dmv lol that car I should have never let her sell

    I had a 74 Mercury Cougar that burned oil. About 1 quart every 500 - 1000 miles. I started using 20w-50 plus STP. Slowed it down a bit but not by much lol

    My little 08 Scion tC uses less oil if I run 5w30 instead of the 5w20 or 0w20 it calls for.

    It uses 1qt per 1,000 miles if I run 0w20.

    And what if the 3UR has tighter bearing clearances than the V35A and runs just fine on 5W-30 or 10W-30? Because the 3UR has tighter bearing clearances and is spec'ed to run up to 20W-50 in Mexico.

    And 0W-20 is 100% an EPA thing. Negligible difference in MPG on the 3UR when switching to 5W-30. The 3UR was originally spec'ed at 5W-30 but was changed to appease the EPA.

    I use 15w40 delvac 1300 in my 4runner. It currently has 245K miles. does not burn even a drop of oil and last compression check was 123 PSI in all cylinders.
    My next 3rd gen tundra 2025 which is going to arrive next week, will be strictly on 5w30 Quaker State full synthetic oil diet. It shows better properties than Toyota, Pennzoil and mobile1 and definitely better than any 0w20

    I think I'll run 5w30 or 0w30 for summer/towing season and stick with 0w20 in the winter.

    Except the dealer will put me back to 0w20 when I take the freebies :notsure:
