It's a whole new housing, not just a bulb. Luckily, the '18 fogs are a plug and play for the '17 and older Tundras unlike the head lights that require a new harness. My '18 LED's are light years better than the previous halogens.

What kind of pricing are you all getting for the 2018 Platinum? Drive out price or everything included except your state tax. I am still waiting on the approval from wife to pull the trigger but there so many scenarios right now. 1. get a 2017 Platinum (with good deals - if any are left) or 2. Get the 2018 SR5 with minor package so i can upgrade later or 3. Go all out and buy the Platinum since I do like the new LED headlights and grill overall and of course definitely loving the new gauges display.

I was in sort of the same boat. The price increase of the Platinum pushed me out of my budget. I figured I would add leather and the LED headlights later on for $2K total. The upgrade cost to the Platinum here was going to be around $7000 higher in sales price. I went SR5 with TRD package.

forget #1 because you will regret you didn't do, #2 or #3!

In December 2016 I went with a 2017 SR5 4X4 CM with upgrade package i.e. 38 gallon tank.....with spray bed, tint and platinum ext warranty, drive out for $37,400! I added Bilstein 6112/5160 suspension, new 18" rims and tires and I'm happy with the decision!

Having said that, many of the great folks in here kept recommending the Platinum! If I was to do it over again or if I trade in the future it will defiantly be a Platinum without a doubt!

Good luck with your choice and imo I would do the 2018 with the few new upgrades it's worth it!

Bets to you from San Antonio!

Thanks bro. Seriously, would you switch from the sr5 to platinum if you had another chance? I mean, for someone like me, money isn't really a factor however the difference of 10K is a big big chunk of change to consider. I can just hear the wife lecturing me about making good decision and putting the extra to better use especially if the difference is only for luxury and partial comfort sake. I totally get that Platinum has all the great features, with all the bell and whistle but .....what make it a must have!? maybe you guys can help me come up with a good excuse for wanting the platinum ahahahha.

Just picked up an '18 Platinum . . . you simply can't beat it. Seats and upgraded tech were important for me. Went with an '18 mainly for the TSS . . . the new instrument cluster and the TSS are a huge upgrade from my '14 Platinum.

So does the radar cruise come to a complete stop and keep working?

I don't believe that it does . . . not all that comfortable to try it out in a new truck just yet, lol . . . from what I read, I believe the radar/cruise turns off below 25mph and alerts you via the pre-collision system to slow down. Personally, I haven't found that pre-collision system to work all that well yet . . . I've had a few pull out in front of me and/or make quick stops and by the time the system started alerting me, it would have been too late to stop . . .

    Ok,

The highlighted statement you said was exactly how I felt! I even had a Platinum deal for $47,000 OTD but at the time I said, hell for $10,000 savings I can load up on mods for half that and i did! I love my SR5 and it almost feels like it's my baby now and feel comfortable and know it's in and outs!

Now on the other hand if I wanted to make it a Platinum, it would cost me more then a Platinum in the long run! So you have to ask yourself, is the extra $10,000 worth the premium of the Platinum! At least with the Platinum you get all 4 corners of bumper-color matched, top of the line leather, better mirrors with puddle lights, front grill surround and hood bulge color matched, better audio and even little things which to me is big like just barley touch the blinker and it gives you like 3 blinks without fully engaging the blinker and a few more features! Plus the new 2018's have the digital speedometer, LED lights and fogs!

For me, If I still have the urge to go Platinum, I will wait till end of 2018 for a much better deal or even when the next gen Tundra's come!

So you just gotten weigh them both, If I were you I might just get the SR5 with what ever upgrades you like and mod it as time lets you, then a year or 2 get the Platinum if wanted. The new 2018 SR5 will have all the new safety features as well!

Best to you, keep us posted and there are great people here that will help anytime, it sure is like a family here with great humor as well! But seriously this website is like a dictionary of knowledge and these guys know there stuff big time!

    this is mine

2017 SR5 CM 4X4 with Bilstein 6112/5160 suspension front set at top setting, Nitto Ridge Grapplers 295/70/18's and SCS SR8's 18's, tint, spray bed, future mods of choice-- dechrome it, TRD PRO grill and RTT rack and new front and rear bumpers!

Love it! thanks for the info. Very helpful indeed. Just I dont have Love the white and the clean look. I'm debating between white (1st choice) and Blue since i dont see many around Houston. Will need to have a serious discussion with the wife now :) Btw, I assumed the 47k otd was for the 2017 Platinum or was it for the 2018? if its 2018 tell me where you got that quote from? I will make the trip up to SA or bring that deal to one of the dealer here.

pics are not great but I also opted for a 2017 SR5. Savings between the $1k price bump for the 2018, dealer discounts, and the rebates was too good to pass up. I spent the extra money on:

Bilstein 6112s on front, TRD grille, drivers side grab handle, dual LED light bars up front, LEDs interior, cargo and back up lights, auxiliary back up lights, Clazzio custom stitch seat covers, tinted 2 front windows (less than 1/2 of dealers price), console organizer and tray, LED bulbs for fogs, retrofit LED headlights in black (on order).

any rubbing with those tires? I plan to go with a 34" diameter but in a 275 when my BFGs wear out. I have almost 2" to play with of which I will need almost 1/2.

Well I've decided to definitely go with the 2018 for one reason only; the new display panel. As for the SR5/Platinum, wifey said it will be an overkill for me to get the Platinum since this will be my first truck ever and she doesn't think the added luxury is necessary. At least not now. I guess that makes sense, since i need to get acclimated and be 100% in love with the truck just like how everyone here seem to feel. :) Plus, I only plan to use for pleasure purpose: fishing /possible trail and off road, beach and home jobs, therefore not sure how often i will use her and i work from home so dont drive often.

Seeing how awesome everyone on this site are, i am sure all the knowledge i will gain will be wisely spent ahahha... Anyway, we will see where it will take me at negotiating.

Good job figuring it out. This 2016 Platinum is the nicest/best truck I have ever owned (and it is my 6th truck). I moved over from a 2014 Chevy Silverado LTZ. Before that, they were all lower level models. As I get older, my vehicle use definitely has changed from travel trailer hauling and Boy Scouts to lawn maintenance and groceries. But I still love my truck!

Definitely gotta get the SR5 upgrade pkg.. If you can wait until January and truck month. Sports will be out and bet the rebates go to $2k. That was my plan before pricing the 2017. Also I think sales could slow and inventories might build. If not January then end of year. Dealers get anxious to reduce inventories before tax hit. I started pricing Tundras a year ago and turned down some decent end of year quotes. Find one that you like that has sat on lot for a while and you will find that dealers are willing to give bigger price breaks. At the beginning of the model year you will find dealers less willing to negotiate. Especially true when demand is there. New Camry is case in point. Dealers are pricing defensively right now. Just give them a few months and see what happens.

When are the TRD Sports coming out? I have heard it was suppose to be September and then heard the middle of October...still no news. Sent a message to Toyota headquarters and they told me to contact my local dealer...which was no help. Any information you guys have heard or has someone seen one yet on the lots by them??

Typical response from Toyota HQ. I inquired about 2018 models some time during summer and they could not comment. I even mentioned a news release.

I have a deposit in for a sport. My dealer has no info on it, other than a build date, which is in December.

But I've been debating on getting a platinum instead. I was pretty convinced to do so after I asked in another thread, but I've been waiting for the details to at least come out for the sport.

On the way home with my 2018 XP 4.6. So far I'm diggin' it. I traded in my 2013 SR5 with a 5.7 so I'm noticing a little less power, to be expected, but not a deal killer.
