2006 tundra 4.7 v8 I changed out my timing belt and tensioner due to right camshaft being one tooth off timing, after replacing I start up my truck and it has a pretty noticeable ticking noise not the fuel injectors I rechecked my timing and it seems to be good? What could it beDD03F2EC-4097-442B-AA31-43190D6E87F5.jpg55469F3C-9035-45EF-B855-CF3F6E4195E9.jpg6DA72070-3D03-4A15-9BC7-05B5E65ACF6A.jpg

The Internet seems to think it’s your hydraulic tensioner. When these guys wake up and start commenting they’ll get you zeroed in on most likely cause real quick. I just did an Internet search which indicated the hydraulic tensioner as most likely cause.

    None yet
    ...or the tensioner bearing,
    ...or the idler bearing,
    ...or the water pump

For ~ $150 I would have bought the Aisin kit and replaced all those things while it was apart, because why not?

I think if you started a poll today about "who with the 2UZ-FE hears rhythmic ticking when their engine is running", the responses would show you at least a 60/40 split, where 60% hear that infamous tick. I wouldn't be shocked if it actually clocked in at 80/20. The cause is speculative, mine sounds like a sewing machine (81k original miles now), sounds like lifter to me. Some, like @Weagle have actually had their ticking disappear after a full tensioner/timing belt/water pump/pulleys overhaul using the Aisin kit (IIRC).

Let me ask you something: Did you pull your negative battery cable for at least 10 minutes during/after the install, forcing a relearn to happen?

Too funny…. I have the 4.0 6 cyl in my 4Runner ….. now that’s a loud engine!! That ticking noise has become so second nature I no longer even hear it. I was amazed at how quiet this 4.7 V8 is. I remember watching CCN and him trying to tell his viewers the sound of a normal 4.0 6 cylinder and one that really did have an issue. (Which is how I learned what warrants further investigation). I was under the assumption that OP has an obvious issue sounding tick…. Not the normal type…lol

The tick I hear on mine sounds like valvetrain chatter to me, I was surprised after seeing other people post videos on this forum and one other, and it sounded nearly identical to mine.

Then another person posted a video from one of the earlier years which, once again, sounded similar to mine, a bit louder, and it was identified as the infamous earlier-year exhaust manifold broken stud leak or cracked manifold, I forget which.

I've heard it's just noisy injectors.

    I dunno what to believe.

I’d definitely classify that as not a normal tick. I hate to say it but to save allot of headache, I’d repurchase a new AISIN Kit and re-do the timing belt, water pump, etc…. That’s just me though. Some of these other guys are better at trouble shooting.

Yeah no serpentine belt was on, so I guess I’ll have to buy a Aisin kit and redo it then hopefully thats fixes it

Wait ... why? It looks like you have a factory belt on the truck currently, is that what you just swapped in?

When you checked the timing did you use THIS METHOD?

I'd want to throw a stethescope on it to figure out where the ticking is coming from before I went that far. What if it's the belt skipping against a harness? Or one of the pulleys making a single contact per rotation on the cam sensor and/or its harness?
