Howdy! Figured I’d start a build thread for my truck as I near one year of ownership. So far I’ve driven about 20k miles in 11 months and have loved every second of it. I got a custom license plate “TRUGG” because it’s a dumb way I’ve been referring to the truck, so that’s its name now. Gonna be a long first post bc I’ve done a lot in the past year.

Start: bought this white ‘22 tundra SR5 4x4 vanilla-spec on 1/27/2024 with 34k miles for $43k (49ish OTD). This was before the recall so the used prices were a bit higher than now.

Maintenance: so far, I’ve done oil changes and both front/rear brake rotors and pads. Neither were close to needing to be done, but they were both warped so I wanted to start fresh.

Here’s a long list of things I’ve done to the truck to turn my cheap truck into not that:

    Lights n Looks:
    • Baja Designs SAE S2 Fogs (Amber)
    • Baja Designs behind the bumper 20” amber light bar
    • Baja Designs TRD Heritage Grille 20” amber light bar (notice a theme?)
    • Heritage grille
    • Marker lights w custom wiring
    • Some Amazon molle panels for the bed

    Suspension, Wheels, and Tires:
    • Some unknown spacer lift that my truck (edit: since replaced with king 2.5S from accutune + Camburg tubular UCAs + trd silver axles)
    • Method 305 17x8.5 rim with +0 offset
    • BFG KO2 35x12.5r17

    Protection:
    • CBI off-road full overland skid, steel, black powder coat

    Exhaust:
    • Carven full catback system

    Interior:
    • Weathertech floor mats
    • Auxbeam 8 gang switch
    • Custom 3D printed mount for the auxbeam
    • Tons of tufskinz goodies on the interior
    • Dashcam
    And here’s some pics!

Great looking truck! Bronze wheels look good with the Ice Cap. I'm regretting not going with bronze now.

Thank you! I actually bought it with the bronze, considered changing them out for machined/clear-coat, but decided my money would be better spent elsewhere.

Looks great! Did you switch out the grille and lights yourself? That is the next mod I would like to do...

Yep! Front grille swap wasn’t too bad, just takes a decent amount of time bc of how much you have to disassemble to pop the grille out. Watch lots of videos on how to remove the front end to make sure you don’t mess up any of the clips mounting the front end to the rest of the body. Baja designs instructions were super thorough and included all the work you need to do to swap the grille as well. Highly recommend getting an auxbeam or other switch panel if you plan on doing multiple lightbars like mine or lightbar + pods, just makes wiring a lot easier. Auxbeam was only like $130 thru Amazon compared to a $1000 sPOD system.

More upgrades coming in piece by piece. Picked up some silver 3” lift axles from my local dealer last week. Picked up Camburg tubular UCAs today on my way into work. Forgot to take a pic of Camburg’s 3rd gen tundra with a widebody + all the goodies, but I think it’s been posted on here before.

Perry parts bump stops coming in on Monday. Kings from accutune coming within the month (rears ready probably next week, 3-4 week lead time on coilovers). Buy once, cry once!

One last, much cheaper toy I bought recently: tiny trug to go on my desk at work

Had a busy couple of days doing mods. Dropped my skid plate since I’m getting my engine recall done this month. Removed the air dam (left the motor there instead of deleting it and paying for a module to avoid an engine code). Swapped black axles for silvers from the trd lift. Swapped UCAs for Camburg tubular uppers. Swapped spacer lift and rear shocks for an accutune king 2.5 setup. Learned a LOT doing the install. If anyone is planning on doing a suspension swap for the first time, this video is a godsend. New setup drives amazing. Just got my alignment and they only had to adjust toe. Can’t wait to drive it more (so much so that I want to punt the engine swap).

Next up, I’ll chop the body mount and weld on a plate bc the rub got way worse after getting some more caster back.

    Here’s some pics!

Can you share pics of the bed molle panels? Looking to get a set for mine too. Cheers

Here you go! The hardware isn’t the best quality - don’t torque any of the supplied screws down super hard otherwise the Allens will strip. I also put some double sided foam tape between the molle panel and the bed in any places that were super close to prevent any rattling. Works great for the price, I’ve even strapped a dirtbike to the panels in a pinch. upload_2025-3-3_19-51-57.jpg

Towed some bikes up to Ridgecrest, CA for the biltwell 100. Got about 13.5-14 mpg and had an amazing time!

Stock springs in the back for now. Eventually, I’ll do either dobinsons or eibach to get an extra inch out of the rear. I’ll give myself a little extra lift once I put on 37s sometime next year (or the following year, whenever these 35s get low). I’ll also do the Dr kdss trackbar correction kit at the same time. I’ve bottomed this truck out a number of times and haven’t destroyed the fender liners yet, so stock springs work great with 35s.
    Thank you!!
