I am thinking about replacing my stock head unit with the Kenwood 1057xr and have a question. I currently have the Rockford Dsr1, JBL 8 channel DSP amp setup from tech12volt. No more factory amp. Right now the rca's from Dsr1 are front and rear set go to JBL dsp amp and sub set goes to Audio Control amp for sub. Spare set is not used. Once I install the Kenwood head unit I will no longer need the Dsr1 and will simply run 3 rca's from back of head unit directly to amps, front and rear to JBL dsp amp and sub to Audio control sub amp correct? No other changes will need to be made at amps correct. I know the maestro is needed for the Kenwood head unit.

    Thanks

    you are correct.
sell the dsr1 and at least cover some of your cost to the kenwood.

Yes sir. The only changes you will have to do to the amps is set the gains again. The 1057XR has 5V RMS rca outputs, so adjust gains accordingly.
I actually had the exact same set up as you with stock HU (except for sub amp) & also upgraded the it to the 1057XR
If you need any help feel free to reach out

I hope I’m not hijacking the thread.

I have the tech 12 volts JBL 8 channel DSP amp and want to add a Kenwood 1057XR. I just need to add 3 RCA’s and adjust the gains? The plug and play was pretty easy but I’m a car stereo novice. Not sure how to adjust the gains.

    Thanks!

Here is a video that explains how to set your gains pretty well:
    https://youtu.be/hQOPP-l3AMo?si=TJSOmU76NXXa2PQX

It will be slightly different with the DSP since it doesn't have physical knobs. Instead you have a level adjustment bar per each channel. I'm not too familiar with tech12volts packages, but I believe his DSPs come pre-tuned for you. If that's the case & you like how it sounds, then I wouldn't touch anything in the DSP. Disconnect the speakers & verify the signal doesn't clip. If it doesn't, you're set. If it does, you might have to lower the level bar on that channel.
With that being said, I already have the 1057XR in my truck & the same DSP & I've verified the signal doesn't clip in any of the channels. HOWEVER, that might not be the case with yours because I have no idea how your DSP is tuned so I would still verify.

The amp came pretuned and I feel I don’t need to make any changes at this time. Other than the harnesses, adapters and maestro do I need any additional parts? RCA cables?

    Thanks!

RCAs should be the only additional parts you need

He said he has the JBL 8-channel DSP from tech12volts, so that should be the JBL DSP 4086.

I still have my factory unit installed in my 14 Tundra. It has a CD player, Sirius XM, Backup camera, steering wheel controls and Bluetooth built in with other controls for the vehicle. I am considering changing it out for an aftermarket unit that can be a good equivalent to this unit. Anyone have any good recommendations? I have already installed a aftermarket amp and sub to the current system.

Much better. I am happy with it, just thinking of changing out the head unit for something different. I did find a few that I saw on Youtube as possible replacements that are plug n play for an easy install. They also seem to interface with all the hookups for camera, steering wheel controls which is something that I don't want to lose changing it out.

Crutchfield & Trail Grid Pro will set up any unit you buy from them as PnP if you choose the option, but I think Dasaita is the only unit that will be PnP out of the box. Maybe the Phoenix/Tesla style radios too...

I've got a Maestro RR2 with my DMX1057XR. The Maestro allows me to keep all OEM functionality the stock HU had, like steering wheel controls, rear backup camera, Bluetooth, etc. On top of that, it provides so much more vehicle data that the stock HU lacks. The things you would lose would be stock navigation (if equipped) & SiriusXM. Navigation is no biggie since you can use maps on Carplay/Android Auto or get an aftermarket HU with navigation. For SiriusXM, you'd need a separate tuner to keep that.
All in all, the Maestro allows you to keep most of OEM functionality & gives you so much more. Just find an aftermarket HU you like & make sure it's iDatalink compatible.

Thanks for the input. Where did you purchase the unit you have? Do you know if the stock unit has built in Sirius XM? My stereo connects to it automatically without having a separate tuner and also has the antenna already installed on the roof of my truck.

I actually found the unit you have and I think I looked at that one before. The one unit I have found currently is a plug n play and nothing else is needed to connect to the vehicle make the steering wheel buttons work. It is also much cheaper than this one. I am trying to keep cost down

So I finally bit the bullet and chose a unit that I was looking at after some reviews I saw on Youtube of the same unit. Has all the necessary wiring and connections to be able to use the wheel controls and backup camera. I will post pics once I have it installed so all can see what it looks like. I have been looking at a bunch of different options and for the cost this is what I was looking for without needing to buy a bunch of extra stuff.

Thanks man. I hope it all goes as planned. Can't wait to see how it looks and sounds. The one thing I will miss is playing CD's, but most of the music I have on them I have on my phone so it's not a total loss. :)

You got it! I just did the same and installed the 1057xr. I suggest considering installing a front camera while you have the dash open.

    Just something to think about;
I have the separate Sirius/XM tuner for my aftermarket HU I installed 8 years ago.
I never use it anymore, I run Sirius off the phone app now.
Sounds better although it's a little more challenging to navigate.

Good luck with your new HU.
There are a couple things you might need, like the adapter to connect your OEM USB plug to the HU.

It comes with an additional USB cord to be able to do this. Everything that comes with it does appear to make this a smooth transition. The videos of the guys that have installed it say they are very happy with the results. Fingers Crossed.

Just curious how you like this setup? I have looked at stereos like this and wondered if I would like it sticking out like that.

I really enjoy it man. Since the Tundra is such a big & spacious vehicle, I feel like the bigger floating screen just goes better with the truck. With the stock unit, the screen felt kinda small. The floating screen also puts the screen closer to the sitting position, which makes it much easier to reach. Do keep in mind I'm short at 5'7" & kinda blind, so a bigger & closer screen is just better for me. I do understand everyone is different & some just like a flush screen better, & I respect it.

Nothing wrong with that :) I did end up going with a flush mount but it too is bigger than the stock unit and sits in the total space that the stock one does but minus all the buttons and knobs. So I am excited to see how it will look and work once installed. I will share pics when complete.

Curious if you are still able to access the door lock and cabin light behavior settings that are in the OEM HU?
