Hey all, I was under my truck checking something this morning and noticed this one side of my engine looked like it might have oil on it. Looks like this is the valve cover. Also you will notice the little drop accumulation at the bottom in one of the pics… this exact same part of the motor on the opposite side seems completely dry. This angle is from under my drivers side wheel weld.. a few points… I had an oil change two days ago and the oil fill is on this side of the engine so not sure if it’s a sloppy oil change…. there is no dripping of anything on the concrete…. It’s a little damp outside so not sure if it’s condensation or something. I wasn’t able to smell it because I can’t reach my hand up in there to get to it.If it is oil it seems very clean which makes me think it might not be coming from the engine but not sure. Anything to be concerned about?

Looks like the cam tower seal leaking, not valve cover. The valve cover sits on top of the tower.

Clean it and monitor. If it only looks this bad after a while, I wouldn't worry about it.

I cleaned it with some brake cleaner and going to monitor. Is the cam tower seal a big deal? Expensive to fix?

From my experience and many others that I've seen, it's not the Cam tower leak. I've never seen it migrate up to the valve covers. I'm betting on a sloppy oil change.

    My pictures below. :hattip:

Yea I went a looked again.. I see the gray seal that’s lower on the engine and there isn’t anything down there that I could see… I got it all cleaned off and going to keep checking it to see if anything pops up again but hopefully it’s all good and just sloppy oil change .. the oil was also very clean like it came right out of a bottle

Yep, yours looks like the factory gray sealant. The fix is usually a black sealant

Hard to say not being there but I don't think so.
Valve cover or a messy oil change would be my guess
