    Hello,

I am chasing down a whining noise from the front of my motor (much worse when the fluid is cold). When I let off the throttle I can feel a vibration in my gas pedal as well. The sound and pitch changed when I turn the wheel. I'm 99% sure that its the power steering pump, so I'll be replacing it when I get the chance.

Has anyone installed an inline filter in their power steering system, if so what ID is the hose and what filter did you use. I assume that the noise is a bearing dying and that has the potential to send shavings through the system and I'd really like to catch them if possible.

    * I have flushed the fluid 3 times, with three different brands. The only one that made a real difference was Amsoil - but the noise and vibration is still there.

Have you tried flushing it and refilling with new fluid? Toyota PS pumps are generally pretty resilient as long as you have kept enough fluid in the system.

Yes, I have flushed it a couple of times. Tried the fluid from the Toyota dealer parts counter and it did nothing, tried Valvoline and it did nothing, swapped to Amsoil and it got quieter but it has progressively gotten louder.

That should work, thank you. I have used the magnetic filters in the past, but they require you to know the ID of the hose.

I did it multiple times, it got slightly quieter - but the symptoms are still there.
