It's interesting to monitor it though. At start up it was 14.0-14.1. Then when I parked @ work it was sitting at 13.5-13.6.......

Not sure. The ones that look like a cigarette are what I started on (from a gas station?) I remember having to order the shit all the way from FloRida when it first started becoming popular.

 

Yeah I used to get the menthol ones like a decade ago. They'd send me coupons in the mail. Made it to where I didn't have to stop playing Fallout to go outside for a smoke.

 

Pretty sure they’re moogs, but they seemed okay. It was all checked less than 2 months ago and the truck hasn’t been driven almost anf all until this past week.

 

I'd say it's one of the two "premium" brands for our era of truck, with best fitment and styling. Snugtop, Leer. A.R.E. and Century (aka "CTC") are in that premium group for 2007+ Tundras, but I feel like they're 2nd tier (still great) for 1st gens due to fitment shit they still hadn't figured out at the time of our 1st gen trucks, like most of the ARE shells I've seen for 1st gens do a poor job of rounding out with the body line at the rear corner of the truck. My dad's ARE on his 2.5 gen is primo, top-shelf, awesomeness. Every other brand (Glasstite, Jason aka 'Ranch', ATC aka 'Astro', Gemtop, Raider, etc.) is definitely on a rung below those top 4. I will say though, those folks at Glasstite did a better job of finishing their shells than any company I've ever seen. That's one place SnugTop was lacking for quite a while, the SnugLid I had on my 2003 Sierra about 20yrs ago looked like it had cellulite across it, I was pretty disappointed with the finish.

A lot of times the mainlind China factories that make those things install weight rings out of junk metal inside the housings to give them that hefty feel.

Got the parts to do the tailgate beef up. While I've got everything apart, thought I'd try to see why the lock on the tailgate is finicky. It unlocks fine, but I get a good bit of resistance at first when twisting it the other way to lock. I definitely don't want to break a key off in the lock. Are there known issues with this lock or should I just drop it in a jar of solvent for a while and then relube with PTFE?

 

Before removing the handle from the tailgate, do this. Pop off both the metal arms, since it needs to be done anyway (pop the clips at the handle mechanism, lift out the two metal arms per side). With those off, try locking/unlocking the tailgate with a key - does it move smoothly? If NO, the issue is in the handle. If YES, the issue is in your latch(es) .

Ultimately, whether or not it's in the handle will determine course of action, logically. But still, lube all the things. And I wouldn't personally use PTFE 'dry' lubes if someone has used a wet lube at some point, because I'm not sure if the two should/will mix, at least not without cleaning out the old.

The top pic is unock pos, bottom pic is lock. While still open, can you see any binding as you turn key ?
Definetly lubricate while open.

 

I had the same issue after replacing everything turned out my steering rack was not torque to spec. I had a local Off-road Toyota shop install it. Can you sit in the truck and replicate the noise in park, my noise was between 11 & 12 o’clock at a full stop


How’s is the drive shaft Carrier bearing and your u- joints?

 

My mechanic recommends solid axle swap.

leafs or coils? 6.44 axles needs a circle track sbc & 700r4. How do i adapt a computer controlled 6-10 spd slushbox (or a manual) to a computer controlled 2uz? Tell the engine its in neutral? Does that ‘take’ the learning?

 

FWIW this is the 02 AC LTD 4x4 4.7 L. I do have one of the original keys. I'll post back when I pull everything out, which may be tomorrow. Dad and I were going to head out this morning to do the job, but he had a rough night with the new knee joint. We also have some of the WD40 lithium grease spray, which looks like what you used.

I just called Airraid. Apparently Airraid was bought out by K&N. When you call Airraid, the hold music is all devoted to K&N product, and it appears K&N bought out Spectre performance too. All three are operating under the same brand now, with K&N at the head.

Anyway, I called to see if it's possible to get the intake tube for our trucks, KIT 981 T, and ... I now have two on the way. "Two?!" you may ask ... yes, she mentioned there are only a few of the replacement parts remaining in stock, and "it seems it's being discontinued".

If I don't have anything that'll work already on-hand that'll work, I may call back and order their hump hoses to adapt out to the TB and the stock air box. The one on the throttle body side requires a reducer, their part number is KIT RDCR 04. The one on the intake side is part number KIT HUMPS 03.

Note if you do what I did, there will be little bits and bobs you'll need to buy, including bibs, potentially hose, etc. Parts list and part numbers below. Install instruction sheet attached (note, this is for the 2005-2006 kit). The only other compatible kit that uses this part that's for sale at the moment is running $278, and those silicone adapters can be bought in multiple places, as can barbs and tees, so I think as long as you have the intake tube, you're golden.

PS - I was told free shipping also. Which is cool if it happens.

NOTE: My spare intake tube is already spoken for, and has a backup recipient in line behind that person! Sorry, reader from the future!

I called yesterday too. The person I spoke to could only find of the connectors. They could not find "Kit humps 03"

The person I spoke to was going to look deeper, but I found that kit 510-781, has identical parts just a different filter. Same fitment too.. BUT, those instructions carry better part descriptions with the PNs, allowing you to source your own hump hose and reducer if need be.

 

You’ll have to pick a bone with him about that.

 

Steering rack is torqued. I very recently checked it.

The driveshaft wouldn’t cause the kind of popping and shifting I’m describing, but it’s a new driveshaft and I properly maintain it.

 

Yes on the 510-781. I have instructions for both.

Is it possible you told them to look for KIT 98i T instead of saying KIT 981 T? The three middle digits there are all numbers. Because, clearly, I was just able to order it.

The good part is, they literally tell you what size the hump hoses are. Will make it easier to order online. Though I do wonder what their cost would be, now I think about it.

 

They found the tube, but not the hump hose. Nor could they tell me the sizes. I found the sizes myself so I may just get the tube so they don't delay me anymore.
