I'm planning to take apart the dash this summer.
What's the most likely culprit, a clogged vent or a bad blower? or??

Air comes out the passenger side just fine, driver side is the problem.
I'm talking about the defrost vents under the windshield. Driver side vent feels wimpy too

If you feel that the volume coming out when the Air Outlet selector knob is in Face position, I would say it's not a motor problem.

Considering how the duct system is designed, in particular when in defrost mode, don't feel it's a clogged vent.

What I feel you have is a problem with either the Air Outlet selector gear or a problem with the plastic gear parts that control those functions located down by drivers right foot.

top pic shows position of plastic part in full defrost mode....

video showing pretty much same issue and remedy....

Just came back to watch the video, and no shit, previous owner did the same thing as in that video - had broken selectors and used pliers to turn them.
I replaced selectors and went on my way, but it sounds like this is exactly my problem.

I'll add in the part 2 of that video for anyone else that comes by this thread

First part (that bubba already shared)

I wish Toyota would've used a smoother arc in this slot here.

If you've ever noticed (as I do, regularly) it's quite difficult hopping across the 'foot' vent selector on the far-right knob, it's because of the weird arc it takes - when somewhere between the foot-only and foot/head control setting, the pin is sliding around the hockey-stick portion, which is what's causing resistance, for obvious reasons.

I almost wish someone could 3D print an updated bracket with travel that's slotted more parenthetic than hocky-stick.
