Hey, I really do appreciate it shifty. Last time I'll post more photos I swear. I took some photos of receipts from the stack of paperwork the current owner showed me. The particular Repair Order for the engine is from Folsom Lake Toyota though it lacks details. The receipt shows that only labor was charged around $2k. I would think that means it's a peculiar case since Toyota wouldn't do that for "free" if it was just a lack of maintenance right? Also the brakes/ suspension receipt is from 12/2022 at 254k. Either way, a lot of shit needs to be done to the truck I am looking elsewhere keeping in mind the PM you've detailed on the "So you wanna buy" thread.

See this? Google LKQ and you'll see why this likely wasn't Toyota replacing it.

It's possible the dealership replaced due to their error (i.e. they did maintenance that fucked the engine up). Or possibly the guy sourced the engine and had the dealer install. But if this was a manufacturer defect, they would've replaced with a new engine, not something purchased from a salvage operation like LKQ.

exactly what i was about to say, thats most likely the customer bought a used engine, supplied from LKQ junk yards. It is certainly odd that it doesnt have purple paint pen writing all over it though. I looked in previous pix but didnt see any there but the paper work would lean heavily towards it being a junkyard engine.

:eek2: Wow you're saving my ass. Should've known with the LKQ print there, I was just learning about them a few weeks ago. Anyway, you rock. That's certainly not a new engine and I will continue my search. That being said, if I can ask another question; Where do you suggest I look for Tundras? I've pretty much been exclusively using FB. I should probably be checking local dealerships and craigslist too. I know there are listings on this forum too. Any other places that you recommend? Thanks again for all the help!

Hey, I think the truck looks nice. If it was priced at $5k it would be a reasonable buy. $11k is outrageous for that truck! It doesn't look like they put a new timing belt in the replacement engine, so you are going to want do that immediately since you have no idea about it's history.

I found my truck on FB Marketplace and drove 6 hours (one way) to get it. It's was a 2004 DC with 270K miles on it. Paid $6k. It was almost an identical twin to the truck you are/were looking at, but with a much cleaner interior.

As others have pointed out, LKQ = junkyard engine, so not new.
No idea how long the transmission will last given the lack of maintenance. I'd pass.

Hey Ya'll. If this is inappropriate I can move this to the marketplace threads, though looks like I'll need to post more before I'm allowed to do that. Anyway, I'm looking for a Tundra with a budget of around $10k (maybe impossible), ideally an AC or DC, needs to be a 4x4. I found one here:

    https://www.autolist.com/toyota-tun...sort_new_cars_last=true&vin=5TBBT48143S334353

Carfax is freely available right on the page. No explicit details regarding the "1st-Gen-Killer" PM. I gave the dealer a call and they said they don't have any other repair info on the truck. At that point, if they can't give me a receipt, all I can do is ask if they'll let me pop the timing belt cover right? Just checking I'm on the right path here.

Didn't I see you say you had kids before and want to camp? If not, ignore me. But that's an AC, and if you've got kids and plan to haul them around, DC is your better options.

A DC is what I'm after, I'm just willing to settle for an AC if I run out of time. I start a job which I'll need the truck for in a month at the latest. I know, should've been looking at lot longer. And I do indeed have some kiddos I want to bring camping! They're only getting bigger.
