New Speaker Wiring?

So many questions with my new install! I am changing out the factory HU (non JBL sytem) for a Kenwood 693S and running the signal to a JL Audio 300/4 amp. I need to run speaker wires from the amp to each speaker. Do you try to tap into the factory wires for each speaker or just run wires all of the way to the new speakers? I am going to do JBL 609C (component speakers) in the front and Image Dynamic ID65's in the rear doors. Thank you!

 

Get the harness and tap into the factory wires. Mount the cross overs inside the doors and mount the tweeters on the sail panel.

 

Do I tap into the factory wiring before they go into the doors?

 

Yes. Run the amp output into the back of the head unit and. Tide these to the speakers wires. At each door you need to take this wires and plug them into the input of the crossover then you gonna run new lines from the crossover sub output to the door speaker and one line from crossover tweeter output to the tweeter..now do this at the other door. If back speakers are not component then just unplug the old and plug in the new. Be very mindful of the polarity at each point...this will directly impact your sound quality and the life of your system.

72-8104 for your truck. They plug right into the wires in the door no need to worry about getting you polarity mixed up with them.

 

The reason that I asked this silly question is that I read that the wiring from the head unit to the front speakers goes through the dash tweeter first which requires a special harness to make it work. So I figure that I can use the speaker wires behind the head unit for the rear speakers without a problem but the front ones may need to be modified. Thanks for your help. I will eventually get this figured out!

 

I understand now..that is a legit question.. First determine if you speakers in the dash..depending on built and audio system you might just have an empty vent..if you have them and you are installing the component tweeters at this locations then you need to run the wires from the amp to the crossover inputs. Now run the sub output to the door speaker behind the head unit and tap into the door speakers. Now run wires from the tweeter output to the tweeter in the dash.
Fyi..some builds will have speakers wire junction underneath the front passenger seat..specially those with the factory amp..if you do..you can tap here..

 

There are speakers in the dash but I am going to mount the tweeters in the sails. No factory amp on this truck.

 

Are you going to be using these? If not just unplug them and go with post#4

 

I won't be using the dash speakers but I need to bypass them somehow to ensure continuity to the door speaker. I will get my voltmeter out to make sure I have a signal going to the door. Thanks.

 

If I had to guess, there are two wires leaving the hu for front left then splits to door and dash somewhere on the left kick panel. Save yourself the pain, pull the grille out and just unplug the dash..you would still have power flowing to the door

I'm not sure that I follow this. The crossover gets the signal from the amp and then sends it to the subwoofer and the tweeter. Am I missing something?

 

No problem! I have asked a lot of questions this week. Now if I could only get some help on the front camera wiring question.

 

It does. I am just trying to figure out how to power it. There are weird red wires at each end of the RCA plugs.

 

That's because you can tap into the reverse lights if this was to be used as a rearview camera with one end red wire or used the red wire at the other end to a switch if this is going to be a front camera. You only need to use one of the two.

I get into the project big time today. I found out that if you do disconnect the tweeter harness, you'll lose the door speaker. The easiest workaround is to leave the harness connected and simply clip the wire leading to the tweeter. This cuts off the tweeter but still sends the signal to the main door speaker.

I was also surprised to find out that there were no front door speakers in my truck! The new system has to be an improvement!

 

Very odd..I pulled both factory tweeters and still have sound to the door speakers no problem.

 

Perhaps a different system. Mine is a non JBL system.

Did you disconnect it at each tweeter or just behind the head unit?

 

Disconnected at each tweeter. Ran the aftermarket harness to bypass the amp into a LOC. As far as I recollect the tweeters and center speaker were powered off of the head unit and the rest of the speakers were powered off of the factory amp, could be wrong though.

What model truck you have ? Im trying to figure all this out before tearing in and spending 2k only to have problems , when you disconected did you lose blue tooth also?

 

I have a SR5 double cab with standard audio system no nav. No issue with bluetooth either. I kept the middle speaker in the dash and I think that is where the bluetooth sounds is played.
