Speaker adapter - 6x9

Howdy-how,

I was installing tow mirrors the other day and, since I was going to have the door panels off anyways, I decided to upgrade my front 6x9 speakers.

When I tried dropping in the new speakers (of course) the mounting holes didn’t line up with holes on the door — but the big problem was the magnet hitting the support bar inside the door.

I’ve seen a few things out there. Does anybody have insight on what would be the best speaker adapter or approach to correcting the spacing issue? I’m hoping to find the magic bullet so I only have to get behind those panels this one last time - I’m tired of busting trim and clips.

So does the speaker screw into that interior ring? I see the mounting holes for the door, but don’t see what the actual speakers would mount to.

This is a question I’ve had on a few of the adapters I’ve seen, but am not able ask anybody about it - except y’all.

 

yes, speaker screws goes in to the ring itself. Just make sure you'll buy ones that fits Tundra. That link i gave you is just for an example. Happy wrenching brother

 

You can gain around 1/8" to 1/4" by taking a dremel tool with a small cut off tool, and cutting the webbing on the inside of the door panel speaker grill section. Also I gained another 1/4" or so by using a heat gun and heating that section, and pressing a soccer ball onto the panel forcing it out. You have to do it gradually though, and keep the pressure on it while it cools. This just allows you to use a thicker spacer.

 

@Azblue I guess my wife wasn’t down with your idea. She caught me mid-install.

 

Don't heat the door panel lol. Trim the lip off of the back of the door panel and get the speaker adapter rings and you will be good to go. I just did this recently.

 

The vendor that shall not be named does make some great heavy plastic speaker adapters.
They are custom cut to the specific size of your speaker base.
I used them for my front doors and Focals..
The MFD I made fell apart after a couple years.
