Yup, don't recall seeing an F1 engine let loose like that in a while. Concur on liking the Vegas track better this year than last year.

 

Not my first choice in manufacturers, but damn, what a mighty big F-U to Andretti!

 

Andretti is still involved but it is a small nut punch. F1 can be so petty…

 

And that’s still only an agreement in principle. Still not definite

 

Senna is airing on Netflix today should be good.

 

Who would of thunk that a dislodged wing mirror laying in the middle of the straight for 4+ laps would add so much drama to a pretty boring race

 

That race was a mess. I haven’t followed F1 long enough to know if all the penalties being levied were fair, but the announcers sure seemed to think the stewards were stoned.

Otherwise a boring race on a very boring track. That track, both the course itself and the broader scene, just looks like something for running karts at a summer beach town.

 

The 10 sec stop and go penalty for Norris is what has been given in the past, twice in Austria 2021, and once in 2017 to Kimi. All 3 during race session, not practice or qualifying. Pit lane speeding that I recall during a race session have only been 5 seconds or something, but since the safety car was leading the field through the pit lane whilst the pit straight was being cleaned up might be why the drive-through was given.

The penalty for Max in Qualifying was unprecedented. Never given before when a driver wasn't on a push/fast lap. Zhou impeded Max in Spa this summer, and no penalty given.

The bigger issue was that Race Control seemed to not want to make a decision, and their inaction as well as inconsistent display of the double-waved yellows on the pit straight led to most of the controversial issues with penalties. There were inadvertent yellow flags at Qatar in 2021, and they've come out at other circuits. It is on the driver to pay attention and take appropriate action, whether or not the flags should be displayed or not. Double-waved yellow = slow the fuck down right now, period.

They could have avoided a lot of issues had they closed the pits, issued VSC, all cars through pit lane while the then-intact mirror was removed from the track, before BOT destroyed it a couple of laps later.

Interesting race...fun to see Lando own it from the start, watch Leclerc and Hamilton storm from the back and see Gasly and Haas showing speed.

I think Drive to Survive for this season starts Feb 23 ... that should be really good.

 

You didn’t see anyone crashing into Max when his driver’s championship was at stake. He should’ve shown the same respect to the two teams going for the constructor’s championship. Damn near cost McLaren.

 

1000% agree. But that’s Max. It’s his race series (world) and the rest of the drivers (and spectators) are just props

I made it to the Vegas race this year - what an incredible experience! Highly recommend anyone going to an F1 Race. We sat on the first corner.

Pretty stoked that we're a few weeks away from the new season!

 

What did that cost you?

 

I ask because my wife and I were in Singapore a few years ago during F1. I looked into tickets and it was $600 for sidewalk during race. We did not go.

 

In all seriousness - my wife works in Vegas regularly (not like that, she's in medical sales). We paired one of her work trips with the F1 weekend, so work covered the hotel, she used Marriott points to pay for the weekend - big win! The tickets were $1,200 a per person for the whole weekend. Certainly spendy, however, you get access to all the racing events (practices, qualy, race), all food and drinks (no alcohol) are included, and there are concerts every night. While expensive, there was a lot of value.

To top it off, we got front seat access to all of the drivers - we saw every driver up close and personal, here are a few pics.

 

Vegas is apparently a more expensive race to go to. My wife surprised me for my 30th birthday with the tickets, so I didn't have much of a say. Not sure how I top that for a gift!

$600 for a weekend of F1 would be a hell of a deal!

According to a lot of people we chatted with at the race, the Vegas weekend is unique with extracurricular activities. They are trying to bring more people to the race with concerts, meet and greets, etc.

 

Ya me too ... pre season tyre testing is supposed to be on ESPN+ 26-28 Feb but I don't see it on their schedule.
I used to go to the British GP quite a bit when I was stationed over there.

Binged the Drive to Survive while traveling this past week...super excited for the race.

 

Speaking of DtoS...Liam Lawson seems like a real, next level prick. Wonder if Netflix played that up to create drama or that's as dialed back as they could make the little shit. Either way, I suspect we'll see some mega meltdowns from both him and Max in the next season. Two egos of that size cannot exist in the same ecosystem.

 

Ya, I noticed that about Liam as well. I binged Drive to Survive in two days, should've paced myself.
