After a year and a half with the Tundra I replaced the rear rotors & pads & adjusted slightly the parking brake...
I measured all four replaced rotors & all in spec.. then remembered all the comments on this forum about
" Don't even bother machining the front rotors" etc....
What happens if you do turn them ?
    Will they ruin easily ?
    Or stay warped ??

I do, and with the costs of rotors now and how fast they warp after being turned, I replace them and never look back.

Just replace them, not worth turning considering cost/benefit and time involved.

If you tow/haul or drive aggressive, Tundras do better with Cryo treated rotors up front.....much more resistant to warping and generally perform better and last longer.

73k on my original brakes. I have fixed the shudder for free multiple times. Not every case of shuddering is indicative of warped rotors. Dropping this post here in case it helps anyone:

    Well this raises a question...
I hardly ever drive at hwy speeds but when I do there is a slight shudder from the front.
    Q. How did you resolve your shudder ?
I was just about to get them balanced since it's been 14 months.

So is this a Tundra only thing or do y'all trash the rotors for any car i.e Corolla, Camry ??
I do not haul or tow nothing at all.
    Simply transportation.

I'm talking specifically about the shudder that happens when you apply the brakes.

If you have a bit of a shimmy at 55-65mph, that is very common and could be from your tires needing to be balanced (or replaced) or needing an alignment.

I’ve always had my rotors turned until they’re out of spec. My 2014 has 93k miles on and I turned the stock rotors at 55k miles. They’re still running fine with minimal vibrations, even though my truck has been on 35s for the last 5 years. O’rileys even turned them for free.

then stock replacement should be fine. Tundras can be prone to front rotor warps but that is mainly with harder braking, haul/tow or installation of big and heavy tires.

My point- if you have to do a brake job anyway, spending just a little more for Cyro rotors on our trucks is not a bad idea.

153,000 on my '07. Have replaced front pads 4 times, the rear once. Still on original rotors front and rear(knocks on wood). Rotors never turned. Always use genuine pads. Believe driving like a grandpa helps.

New rotors are dirt cheap and they drop them at my front door. I haven't turned a rotor for brake job in more than 25 years. It's not worth the cost to turn them or my time to even make the drive to drop them off to be turned and drive back to pick them up. Plus, I don't want to wait around with my truck in the air for rotors to come back. Just smack on new rotors and go.

Have close to 100k on current rotors. Just replaced driver rear rotor and caliper cause I didn’t want to mess with freeing a frozen caliper in negative temps. I get a substantial ups discount from O’Reilly on all my bolt on parts.
I always drive in S mode and engine brake well before using my fat pedal and never tailgate

Recently replaced front pads but didnt replace rotors. Mostly due to current funds but will be soon. Now have another problem, rear passenger caliper leaked brake fluid after test drive. Did i blow a caliper?

Last time I turned rotors was in 1998. I didn’t know places even do it anymore.

Rotors are so cheap now that I don’t bother.

I used to turn all my rotors (and drums) until I started getting newer vehicles. Now it seems that turning them is an outdated way to deal with warpage. That or the cost of replacements have significantly dropped so ppl just replace them.

I have a new set of OEM rotors I'm about to install but there's a weird rust coating on one of them. Thinking I'll hit it with a die grinder disc before I slap it on.

I have some Cryo rotors that were over $200 each 5 years ago. After around 50k miles, my pads were almost dead and they made concentric grooves in the rotors.

So while I have never had rotors resurfaced before, I had these done at $17 each. So I spent $34 instead of shelling out over $400 for a new pair of cryo rotors.

I just picked up new OEM rotors all around, none of them had an oil or other coating on them. I thought it was kind of odd.

Yeah raw metal you'd think would have some sort of coating to keep from rusting.

Just spray them with brake cleaner and wipe them down. Install and let the brake pads eat the rusties away. Unless they are obviously pitted.

I'm keeping all 4 of mine their still in spec.
And unless the difference is within 20$ I'm turning my front rotors just like I always have. Never had issue before, though this is the heaviest vehicle I've ever owned albeit Like mentioned It's a like big Camry for us....simply transportation.
I don't haul or tow nothing never.
Never will less it's a water heater or refrigerator etc household appliances.
So I can see the rate / & type of wear on mine and a Tundra used like a workhorse in industry or towing a vehicle or camper.
I can see those front rotors warping from the extra weight.

I'm kinda new here, and new to diy car stuff too. Well, I did My first brake job on my beater equinox, bought a kit from a company that makes pretty great you tube videos. Did that without an issue.

My old Rusty 2007 sr5 double cab with 160k at the time has had mushy brakes for a while. I went Ahead and ordered a kit for new rotors, pads and calipers for the front, and new pads for the back. Also a new brake master cylinder. Never monkeyed with those either.

suprisingly it went ok! Until I snapped both bleeder screws on the rear calipers.
So my couple night job got extended a bit. Getting those lines lined up and screwed in straight in to the master was a pain as well. But I got It done and the mushiness was 100% gone. Very satisfying.

parts and videos from A1 auto.

just did the bearings on my beater equinox! That was fun.. but again, satisfying.

I have referenced several TRQ videos on Youtube for doing maintenance/repair tasks on my Tundra. They are very well done and have excellent content and explanations/tutorials.
