whats more effienct?

Big brain time! Whats better for mpg? Whats less strain/wear on engine/trans?

Option a. 2000rpm with constant 6-7psi boost
Option b. 2400rpm with constant 1-2psi boost

Been cyclin between sport mode and tow/haul mode with same load. Obviously option b is responsive and fun. I hate how the engine feels like its luggin with option a. Instead of downshiftin we add more boost. More boost! Guess thats more effienct?

 

For me, I don’t race my truck. I have other vehicles that get that out of my system with. If you’re talking just daily driving with not much in the bed and not towing, I almost exclusively have it in eco and tow-haul off. I like the quick-early shifts and somewhat lazy torque in this mode for just everyday driving. If I want a little more natural response to throttle input I’ll go normal mode.
Now, if someone gets feisty (and it’s usually a newer domestic truck driver) while I’m in my truck and my common sense is overwhelmed by the boy racer, I’ll go sport and tow-haul+. That typically embarrasses the guy in the other truck…

 

Charles Lindbergh flew a few combat missions in the Pacific in the P-38 lightning and it was noted that upon return his plane required less fuel to top off the tanks. His method of higher boost and lower RPMs were always thought to be a sure way to kill an engine due to pre-ignition in the combustion chamber. Doolittle's influence in getting higher octane fuels changed all that.
In the past it was rule of thumb not to operate over square. With knock sensors in today's engines and/or higher octane fuels it is no longer a problem.

It's a truck, I don't look at EFFICIENCY, I just look at "will it do what I need it to do." Just put it in gear & drive it, let it do it's thing. If you want EFFICIENT, buy a prius? (And a dictionary)
