Yeah there were a few 2024 MY vehicles on it when I looked last month, but they were 2023 build dates. Even the FB failure I posted a couple weeks ago was a 2023 build date.

What data are you using to definitively make the statement that the failures aren’t slowing down?
If I were a betting man, I’d wager the ‘25 Mudbath is probably a Fall ‘24 build.

Plenty of 2024 build date failures. Especially from May 2024. Owners have not filled out the Google Form from what is in there.

You should see the only option listed under my truck description in the avatar on the left. I have had it since the day I bought the truck. :D

Are you suggesting failure rates across all production years up to end of 24 are the same as it was when recall was announced?

So, the question I have regarding these later failures is: are the recall replacement engines coming off the same line as the ones that have been and are currently are going into new builds, and if so, is it in batches or any sort of organized tranche? Or just onesies and twosies? And we don't really know the failure rates before and after the problem was supposedly solved. All these unknowns make me more nervous giving up my perfectly running 11/22 build date engine.

It seems so random, its almost like a factory worker has a grudge and is randomly scratching up engines to cause a failure. I know that's not really it, but I can understand your stress. Be nice if Toyota just said "will swap engine anytime in the first 5 years after sale or 80k miles". Then you could really have time to shake it out and see if you were in the clear or not.

The Engine Assembly for the Recall has it's own specific line at TMMAL.

I specifically bought my 22 knowing it would get a new long block. I got a SR5 crew max long bed with premium, convenience, and premium audio packages so it’s just missing a few things that limiteds have. With 16k miles I paid just under $42k. In my opinion that’s a lot of practically brand new truck for the money. Plus it’s going to get a brand new engine at around 20k miles. With a 9/22 build date, I’m in phase 3 or 4 so it’ll almost certainly be a 2025 engine, and dealers will have a good number under their belt before I do it. Sure there’s some risk of it failing before the replacement, but the numbers are low.

We made it to age three with our kid before my 2008 double cab started to feel really small in the back seat. Got $15.5k for it when I only paid $20k for it in 2016. That also factored into the replacement - sell it while it’s worth good money and before more things started breaking.

Really interested to hear about more engine replacement experiences and how they perform after.

This is curious IMO. When I asked if the Tacoma engine and hybrid engine were built on different lines, the answer was no. You seem to have different information?

I think he means the replacement engines for the recall are on a separate line, so they can keep regular production at the desired rate.

The T24A-FTS and V35A-FTS (Type '21) are each built on a single line at TMMAL. Non-Hybrid & Hybrid flow down the same line, but obviously different parts are installed based on being Hybrid or not. (ie. Flywheel, Vacuum Pump, etc)

The Engine Assembly (04004-23370) for the 24TA07 Recall has it's own assembly line that produces anywhere from 150-200 (two 10-hr shifts). These started being produced in August of 2024.

EDIT: Corrected number of engines produced per day.

Hey Sudobash, are you going to answer my question? You say “failures have not slowed down” but don’t want to elaborate? How do you come to this conclusion? Is it just on recalled vehicles or all production years up till end of 2024 when you say they finally got it fixed? Where do you get your information when the only verified failure resource available to the rest of us is the spreadsheet you don’t run apparently.

The original statement answers your question without getting into specifics. Rates are that of the recall range.

You get into an awful lot of specifics on other topics like manufacturing lines, production numbers and shift duration. All in one post. But on arguably one of the most important questions on here, you can’t?! You share a lot of very helpful and interesting information on here. I’m just a bit concerned with how much of it we can believe if this is how you react if you get questioned on a sensitive statement with zero backup.

I would venture a guess that getting into those specifics may create a an issue with employment with him if he is employed by Toyota. They may not want those numbers out there.

Dealer never contacted so called back today. Service rep now says that Toyota has not released replacement parts for my build date and that they would let me know when they do. Anyone else get a story like that?
