    Just bought 2016 Sr5 crew cab 80,000 miles
    Switched gas cap to locked won from auto zone and check engine light came on and mpg went down steadily said bad fuel cap now I switched back to stock fuel cap mpg going back up slowly is there a locked gas cap that will work?

    I was under the impression it was nearly impossible to syphon gas from the Tundra.

    Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension, HD RAS, 285/75-18 Nokian Outpost AT, LoPro bed cover, TRD rear sway bar, DD 10 inch exhaust, and various other goodies
    Keep the stock gas cap, Tundras like stock parts, if you want a lock, they sell the hinged gas doors that have locks.

    Bought my '18 tundra used and it came with a gas cap that has a lock w/ key. Does that mean my cap is not OEM? I had always assumed it was.

    I did get 2 codes a while back that was related to fuel and assumed it was me not properly tightening the cap since I had filled up that morning. I reset the codes with my Scangauge III after searching the forum and seeing it may have been the cap. I got the same codes again this morning after filling up yesterday. Reset again thinking it's most likely the gas cap so that's what brought me here. I'm going to order a new one from the dealer but after reading this thread, it seems like OEM shouldn't have a lock, is that correct?

    My check engine light has come on twice in 10 years.
    1. I didn't tighten the gas cap.
    2. My cats were stolen..

    You are correct, that's aftermarket. Tundra's are pretty sensitive to those for some reason. :notsure:

    I have tried a few different non-OEM locking gas caps and they all made me get the error. Can't beat OEM.

    An entire gas cap cover as shown above is the best solution.

    So glad to hear that it's most likely my non OEM gas cap throwing the codes and not something more expensive. I went ahead and ordered it from my local dealer that's having the 15% sale right now so jumped on that n threw in a spare oil filter housing just in case. Not a bad deal.

    Good luck finding one. I have no idea why they stopped making them. I believe they stopped making them mid 2018. Would be nice if they were produced again.

    Yeah, I'm seeing RealTruck and Summit comes up in a Google search but the site says "not available". There's several to choose from on Amazon though so maybe I'll give one of those a try based on reviews. Did yours require any drilling or anything like that or is it a simple bolt on?

    My locking Stant cap seemed to throw codes after 6 months, frustrating. Back to OEM. I have the identical Stant cap on my FJ cruiser with no issues.
