Are Bronze wheels a bad idea with chrome bumper?

My tire place has a great deal on some 20 fuel rebel wheels because whoever ordered them cancelled… I was looking to get NITTO tires and would love to have the hub centric wheel for ride quality …. Is the dark bronze a clash with my chrome bumpers? I sort of like it the more I look at it but don’t want to make a mistake…. In the pictures: The XSPX is my truck with current set up and the other pictures are the wheel and tires I’m looking to get … also the TRD Off-road has the wheels I’m looking at with a chrome bumper.. what do yall think?

Its your truck, if you like the look then run with it.

I will just say, if you go bronze wheels and leave the chrome end caps but later decide you want to color match. There are a few ways to do that without taking things apart. Dechroming the bumper will be easier then later wanting to changing the wheels. So if you like the wheels, get them!

Good points! I think you can get away with it on a black truck.. other colors I’m not too sure but still thinking on it .. everything on the internet says don’t do it lol

But most are already anti chrome... so of course they will say not to do it.

If you are good with the black truck, bronze wheels you know you want, and the chrome bumper ends. I say go for it and make your opinion once you are actually staring at your truck. You can plasti-dip your bumper for like 50 (front and back) if you need a quick black out while you find a more permanent solution if you decide you don't like the chrome. I think its worth the risk since you stated you didn't mind the look with the chrome bumper ends.

Getting rid of chrome bumpers is easy, especially on a black truck.

Chrome Stoppers - Car and Truck Chrome Delete Kit and Blackout Central – ChromeStoppers

    upload_2025-2-11_16-16-41.png

I have the black TPO on my 2014.
    Easy to install.
The texture pretty much matches the black plastic on the front bumper valance and rear bumper center.
You can message @EC1 if you have any questions, they are a forum vendor..

However, keep in mind that your chrome grille surround will be next to go.
Then maybe the chrome headlights to a 2018+ OEM LED TRD Pro upgrade with an @iHacker harness.
    Just saying..

It does seem like most everyone thinks I should delete the chrome with these though lol … does anyone think it will look good with the chrome? I’m glad to know there are some easy options to black it out if needed.

Soo... again loaded question. It all comes down to what you like. Will it look bad, no it won't. Would most of us delete the chrome (which most of us have done) yes we would. But its one or the other. I'd either leave the chrome bulge, surround, and bumpers. Or replace all the chrome.
I would not black out the bumpers and leave the bulge and surround chrome. But I still think you would be in good shape to get the wheels on and then determine if you want to start the dechrome process or not.

So far so good, been through a few car washes since installed.
When I installed them I did Amazon.com: CERAKOTE® Ceramic Trim Coat Kit on the front valance and the rear plastic.
If it all gets weathered I'll apply it again.

Yes, they do make overlays for the grille surround and hood bulge.
They make them in TPO as well as painted to match your OEM paint color.
I replaced my stuff with OEM so I did not use theirs.

2014-2021 Toyota Tundra Hood Bulge & Grille Surround Overlay - Shellz™ – ChromeStoppers

I will say if I ever bought a Gen 3 and it had the silver mustache on the grille, I'd be purchasing their Gen 3 grille overlays for the front grille and the rear bumper.
But I plan to keep my 2014 until it no longer runs..

Are you kidding, those wheels look great either way. Love the color of bronze wheels, and a little bit of chrome is more like a balancing act. Run it for awhile and see what you think after 2-3 months.

Thanks man… I feel like it would look good.. a little different maybe but don’t necessarily mind that.. just not used to people saying you shouldn’t clash the chrome and bronze color they don’t really do that with other wheels…. But I even looked it up from a design standpoint and it says that dark bronze and chrome can exist together in the right proportions .. one being cool and the other being a warm metal.

I’m definitely feeling like I’m just going to go for it with the wheels… I really want a hub centric wheel and would like to keep 20s and they are just giving me a killer deal on these… I’ll run it for a while and worse case I’ll do the bumper and front bulge overlay to do a chrome delete if I feel like it needs it. I tried just for the heck of it to see if I could find hub rings for the Boneyards to see if that would improve ride and drive quality but haven’t been able to find any that would match the wheel and my truck .. which might be why I never was offered any

I'm not big on my chrome... I don't love it but don't hate it enough to change it.

The chrome/Bronze isn't as nice as color matched probably would be, but it ain't bad.

On another note, what steps are those? I was looking at wheel to wheel N-Fabs but only saw them for DC's and not CM.

    Thanks for the feedback.
I don’t think I mind the chrome with bronze because black and bronze blend pretty well together .. not sure I would like it on a different color… hard to tell without it being on my truck yet .. but I’m getting such a good deal on the wheels I could do a chrome delete if needed and still come out really good price wise… the steps were on the truck when I bought it but bought some to put on my Tacoma I had before this and don’t remember the brand but remember them being called low profile.. maybe try searching for tundra low profile running boards or steps
