    Hi all, this is not a post to advertise. This is to ask for input. I currently have a 2022 Tundra in my garage and I am going to be working on some of the complaints of its operation. Some of the complaints I have are as follows:

    1. Start/Stop function disable.
    Doesn’t look like it can be disabled through Tech Stream. I will search a way to jumper the relay or request VF Tuner to add into their software a way to disable it

    2. Sluggish start from a stop.

    3. Transmission gear hunting.

    I’ll add to the list as I get more feedback and also post what I’ve done to remedy so everyone can see.

    Current 2022 Tundra V35A-FTS has Cal ID 30cr5401

    There are new Techstream Cal ID updates for the 3rd Gen Tundra. Anyone in the Austin area that would like their ECU updated free, I just ask that I can read your ECU. This is a non invasive thing and something Toyota would charge for.

    First ECU reflash completed. Flashed it to the stock file and test drove. Seems to be good. Had a DTC for ECU lost comm, but cleared. Now I’m flashing the take off tune. I’m also timing how long flashing takes. Will report back soon.

    Takes almost 12 minutes to flash the 3rd Gen Tundra ECU. Def wouldn’t suggest flashing it without a fully charged battery and a proper power supply. Battery tender may make it, but I wouldn’t chance it. 2nd best way to be sure the ECU gets constant power is to jump from another vehicle.

    First test for the starting from a stop lag wasn’t enough. Gonna get aggressive and see where it’s at. I’ll continue in the morning.

    Now that I’ve been playing with this truck for a few days, here’s some things I’ve noticed.

    The sluggish start from a stop. You can’t just adjust translation per gear to get better response. There are are few other maps in other tables that need to be adjusted as well. You also need to get aggressive with the two first gear maps to make a difference in take off performance.

    I didn’t touch any of the transmission shifting tables, torque converter tables, or throttle tables to get the truck to shift and respond much better. It was all making very conservative adjustments to load, boost, and enrichment that made the largest impact.

    Overall, without getting this over to a dyno, the performance feels like it is outperforming stock with just some conservative adjustments that I don’t feel it needs to be on a dyno for. Pair that with adjusting throttle limitations and both 1st gear translations, it is definitely driving better.

    All together I made adjustments to about 70 or more different maps and targets. It sounds like a lot, but some of them were redundant. I didn’t touch any spark or VVT maps.

    Now I just need my friend to come and take it for a test run himself and have his wife drive it as well to get the final input on this.

    My next step now is to start playing with transmission shifting and torque converter tables. I don’t think there’s much on the shifting that needs to be done, just some conservative adjustments. But torque converter locking can definitely be improved and will help put better power to the wheels and even make the truck more fuel efficient as well.

    If y’all have any input, I’d love to hear it. It would help greatly on this fun journey.

    My friend had some oppurtunity to drive his truck after my final adjustments and here is his response.

    The increase in fuel efficiency was surprising to me. I’ll get a report back from a trip he’s taking on how it does towing and with bigger tires as well. When he gets back from his trip, I’m going to get his input and make more adjustments as needed. Then hopefully before the end of January, I can get some dyno time to compare the small changes I’ve done here to stock, then also do a proper dyno’d adjustment.

    More feedback. Just simply making adjustments to basic limitation maps gets this motor putting out more power from stock. If you go in the VF Tuner website and read the how to guide for tuning this motor carefully, it’s just about every map and set point mentioned minus spark and VVT. I’m really curious what adjusting these basic maps has done for power.

    If you read the guide carefully, make conservative adjustments, and be sure to add extra power and temperature enrichment, you can squeeze extra power out of these motors with minimal effort.

    Hitting the dyno today. Will run the stock calibration, then my finalized conservative adjustment calibration, then will further tune from there and see what can be done with 87 octane.

    Dyno completed on 87 octane. Didnt have gear lock unfortunately, but we made due.

    Unfortunately no tune can do that. Only thing available that’s similar is increasing the RPM fuel cut from 5800 to 6200. You would need a plug in ABS module calibrator to attempt to correct the Speedo. I think rough country and a few others make them.

    Yes. The dyno we’re using for this project is an after hours deal. So I have to coordinate with the company and also with Bradley n Ashley. It’ll be in the next few weeks that I get back over there and run tests for 93 octane.

    These twin turbos have plenty of potential. I was blown away with how much additional power it made with just some conservative adjustments.

    You would have increased flow and would need to scale to compensate for the change. But yes, you could potentially gain additional power.

    Couldn’t get it calibrated unfortunately. Feels different for sure over stock, but by how much is TBD
